When I first saw the dolls - and maybe they've changed - it was clear they were glorifying gang culture. Totally the wrong mesage for girls. However, I find it outrageous that an employer can force employees to sign a contract, which should be unenforceable, saying that it owns all the ideas in your head just because you work for them. They are saying if you are emptying the trash one day at Mattel and get an idea about Trashcan Toy and don't act on it until you leave the company, Mattel still owns Trashcan Toy, because the thought occurred to you in a fleeting moment in their building. Disgusting. It's the company stealing a patent in advance.

Rap music glofifies the gang culture so the dolls only reflect that. And they are not as slutty as the women in those videos. However I tend to agree with Gaymedia on the taking of ideas that come into your mind while you are employed for someon. The question here is as to how far he went with them, did he use Mattel resources (computers for example) to flesh out the designs?
In my mind if I have an idea that idea belongs to me. If I chose to share it with my employer then fine, if not then I own it. So long as none of their facilities were used they have no rights to what goes on in my head. |

MATTEL IS SHOWING IT'S ULTIMATE GREED IN THIS
SITUATION.HOWEVER,IF HE USED MATTEL RESOURCES TO FLESH OUT THE IDEA,HE DOESN'T HAVE A LEG TO STAND ON. I WOULD HAVE DONE THIS ON MY HOME COMPUTER AND OTHER SYSTEMS I HAD ACCESS TO (LIKE KINKOS).TOO BAD MY DAUGHTERS LIKE THE DOLLS.I TOLD THEM TO SAVE THEM AS POSSIBLE COLLECTORS ITEMS. |

I am very sad that they will take the bratz doll of the shelves. My daughter love the bratz doll and we are a very conservative family. I think that mattel is afraid that the bratz doll will outsell them. I come up with lots of ideas sometimes while I am working, does this mean that the agency that I work for own my thoughts and ideas. The Bratz doll look nothing like the barbie doll. The Barbie is designed to apease one specific group of people, not everyone fall into the look of the barbie doll. My 7yr old has hips and is curvy and I want her to see dolls that depict her size. I will agree that the bratz dolls were a little racy with the clothing. I just bought more suitable clothing for my standards
