Let's not kid ourselves here. Colt is the best Quarterback in the country, hands down. Will he win the Heisman? Probably not. Tim Tebow of Florida has the SEC label to go along with all the hype about his 51 total TD's. Needless to say in 2006, Brennan had 58 TD's in passing alone. I find it funny how JJ's QB's acquire the tag of being a "System QB" and no one makes a fuss about it. But the second JJ calls Tebow a system QB, all of those "College Football analysts" get their panties in a bunch. What JJ said isn't news. It's the truth. I've been saying it all along, ever since the 49ers decided to overpay Alex Smith. I told my friends, "Alex Smith is a good athlete but he's not a great QB." They'd ask me why I thought so and I'd reply: "When's the last time you saw an NFL team run the Spread Option?" On the other hand, we've seen JJ's Run n' Shoot at the NFL level. Also entertaining is when I saw Jesse Palmer of College Football Live bash JJ for making those remarks about Tebow, then when asked who will have the more productive NFL career hands down, he replied: "Colt Brennan."

Are they playing in the NFL right now? No. Stop talking about it because it strait up doesn't matter. If it was based on NFL potential the award would go to Glenn Dorsey. In addition, it is an annual award. If you can stop being a homer for just a second you would see pretty clearly that Tebow and Brennan were not even close this year.
Tebow's stats:
Passing 217 317 68.5 3132 29 6 Rushing 194 838 22 4.3
Brennan stats:
Passing 337 472 71.4 4174 38 14 Rushing 73 65 8 0.9
In addition, they are not playing against the same level of competitions. 20 rushing touchdowns in the SEC is simply amazing. Doing that while having nearly the best passing rating in the country in mind blowing. If you have to choice between the two for a college quarterback, you pick Tebow. I watched him in Tiger Stadium this year. LSU only won that game because the offense kept him off the field with 5 fourth down conversions and that was his worst game statistically. The man is a force of nature and deserves the heisman. Just be happy your boy got the invite to New York.

Chris you Tebow humper, the only reason Tebow was able to get those stats were because of all the all stars on that team.
Have him play at Hawaii, with no blue chip atheletes, he's just another injured quarterback.
btw what bowl game did he lead his team ti this year?
Looks like he misses Tinky Weinke.

I am so sick of hearing about Tebow...you would think he is the second coming of Christ and the SEC is the promised land. He is a good player but has he been a leader to a team? Football is a team sport and there isn't anyone in the country that is more of a team leader than Colt. As for the records/stats, Colt didn't even play against Charleston Southern and only played 3 quarters of the Northern Colorado game. So, you really can't hold the weak schedule against him...plus, his stats came from only playing in less than 10 games! I don't want to hear the comparison of SEC vs. WAC either...if the Heisman is for ALL colleges and not just certain conferences, then strength of schedule should be a mute point! Enough already...

Chris ala vegas, you idiot. UH recievers are with the best in the nation. Guys, you can't knock either of them, nor elevate one's stature at the expense of the other. That's childish, and exactly what Jones did on national TV. Chris and Jones think the same, it's all about Colt. Where does the rest of the team fit in?

Vegas-The Capital One Bowl. Best none BCS game available and his team was ranked high enough for a BCS birth but with Georgia and LSU already going was not eligible to go. Don't talk smack when you don't know how the system works. As for Tebow's stats, Chris Leak never put up those kind of numbers for Florida whereas there have been a bunch of QB's for hawaii that have put up numbers like Brennans (Chang, Rolo, etc) that have not been very good at the next level. As for Tebow playing at hawaii, he would be successful. If you actually watched his games you would know how incredibly talented this kid is. Brennan is a good quarterback but he is no Tebow.

Kona-the level of competition matters. If you play crappy teams you will have better stats than if you played against the best teams in the country. As for your point about Colt putting up great stats with less playing time, check his turnovers compared to tebows. He has thrown more of them in fewer games than tebow. Add Tebow's rushing stats into the mix and it isn't even close. The award goes to tebow, don't bash the kid he just had a better season than your guy.

But check how many passes Brennan throws compared to Tebows. Brennans 472 with 337 completions compared to Tebows 317 with 217 completions. Brennans 71% compared to Tebows 68%. Brennans 4170 compared to Tebows 3132 in passing yards. Yards gained Brennans 379 compared to Tebows 261. Colts 38 TDs in less time comapred to Tebows 29. I really dont see the Tebow argument

First and foremost, Tim Tebow is an outstanding athlete. He has put up mind-blowing numbers this season in practically every category. The guy can run and I guess many people think the lefty can pass. With that said, should Tebow receive the Heisman this year? My UH Warrior mentality says a big NO! If you want to base the Heisman purely on stats, then our boy COLT should have received it last year. He put up astronomical numbers and showed the nation how the position of QB should be played. Like it or not and I'm sure many people won't, Colt Brennan is the best QB in the nation! Who cares about strength of schedule? The BCS sure cares and yet Hawaii managed to get into the Sugar Bowl. Let's not forget that many teams did not want to play Hawaii such as Michigan, Michigan State, etc. Yes, we played some weak opponents but this crazy college season has shown us how difficult it is to be undefeated, regardless of the opponent.

Passing, Colt clearly is the man. Rushing, Tebow has better stats, I believe he has 22 Rushing TD's. That number is really impressive right? Brennan has 8 Rushing TD's to go along with his team's undefeated record. Colt has a third of the rushing TD's that Tebow has, even though he is a pure passer. The major difference between Tebow and Brennan is that Brennan runs when he needs to. Brennan is a smart QB and his decision-making and accuracy in passing are phenomenal.

There are also many intangibles that the Heisman candidacy does not take into consideration. Colt has heart, leadership, pride, and respect. Brennan could have easily left last year for the NFL draft, but chose to stay because he felt a need to give back to the school and the state. All he has done is put up good showings on national telvision and led his Warriors to a perfect 12-0 season and the Sugar Bowl. Whenever things looked bad, Colt found a way to fire up his guys and win. I believe the San Jose State was also nationally televised on ESPN2. A lot of people got rowdy about Brennan's performance, but I do not see why. The field conditions were awful and down 14 points with a few minutes left, Colt helped his team get the W.

As long-winded as this commentary has been, reality says that Colt will not win the Heisman. There are too many variables that unfortunately do not favor the island favorite. Tebow is great but he's a Sophomore. He's got a few more years to earn the Heisman so give it to McFadden already. Plus, I hope Heisman voters realize that a QB should pass just as a RB should run. If Hawaii fans had it our way, Colt should have won the Heisman last year and this year. Again, reality is cruel but Warrior Fans around the world, let us celebrate the fact that Colt Brennan is a Heisman trophy finalist and ONE HELL OF A QUARTERBACK that we can all be proud of. Mahalo !

Is the Heisman for the best collegiate player in the Nation?

What is the criteria to be the "best" in the Nation?

Is it for a player who is consistent over a period of time - not just a season?

Just wondering.

Looks like the only thing going for Tebow is that he plays in the SEC, the self-perceived best conference. Not sure how good the SEC since I haven't seen them play against a WAC team this year. I know that Auburn played against New Mexico State and won 55-20, impressive score but not an impressive win.
How about the Gator's non-conference schedule? W. Kentucky (49-3), Troy (59-31), Fla Atlantic (59-20), and Florida St (45-12). The competition isn't too impressive. The SEC Conference is pretty tough, but all conference games are tough for every team. You can see it throughout the country - remember USC & Stanford, Pitt & W. Virg, Colorado & Oklahoma, S. Carolina & Georgia.
Hawaii's schedule may be at the bottom but they still were able to win all their games and avoided any upsets.

Colt, the team, and all of the coaches, as well as, grad assistants are very deserving of this recognition. It took a lot of hard work and believing to get this far and I know every UH alumnae must be feeling the pride this honor bestows.
AND, it's a good thing the Heisman didn't require UH to sell tickets. The AD admin would have sent a good portion of them back and put a black cloud over this auspicious event as well.

On a scale of 1-118, most BCS schools start at no lower than 50 and then try to make the trek towards to #1. NON-BCS schools start substantially below that and it takes more than a year to get into the top 20. Such was the case for Boise. Such is the case for Hawaii.

Colt and Co. took a team from obscurity, a team that was in the bottom end of that 118 three years ago and marched all the way up to #10.

I say that's more than deserving of the Heisman.
Nearly 100 steps? What other candidate took their team on a journey that far?
