Trap for Warriors set in Reno
#1 Nov 13, 2007
Great article. Is it true, we have never won at UNR??? YIKES!

True, there are quite a few ominous things about this friday's game. But there are some positives. Ferd, Fresno State actually beat Nevada on it's home field in Reno. So it's possible...but like you said, it's going to be cold and hostile in Reno.

I hope Colt will be slinging that pigskin in that cold, altitude like air with precision. I hope the defense shows up for 4 quarters instead of the 4th quarter. This game is going to be tougher then San Hosed for sure!

Keys to the Nevada Game
(1)Substitutions. Playing at high altitude will feel like running uphill. It's a good thing Hawaii has depth at almost every position this year. In previous meetings against Nevada on the road this was not the case. Hawaii must not run out of gas like they did against FSU, or it will be a long, cold night.
(2)Contain Colin Kaepernick, this weeks WAC Offensive Player Of The Week. Kaepernick is to Nevada as Colt Brennan is to Hawaii. He leads the best balanced attack the Warriors have played so far. He is ranked 10th in the country in pass efficiency, and can run the ball well. Luke Lippincott leads the WAC in rushing. They will both keep Hawaii guessing on defense. Warriors front seven on defense must disrupt handoffs and laterals between the two, and create the potential for turnovers.
(3)Continue to mix it up. Nate Ilaoa rushed for over 150 yards against Nevada last year. A repeat performance at the running back position would help a lot.
(4)I still believe Hawaii has the best quarterback rotation in the WAC. Hopefully Colt can play. If Tyler Graunke is called upon to start, if he brings his A game, he can be as good as anyone. Let's hope he's on for this game. The only thing Inoke Funaki needs is more reps. I know he is an excellent playmaker and can move the ball downfield. If all three play, they will be hard to defend.
(5)With the high altitude, Dan Kelly needs to kick the ball deep into the endzone on kickoffs. This should give Hawaii the needed edge on special teams.

As a Boise State fan, I am hopeful that the Warriors can win at Nevada, because I can't think of a more appropriate conference season ending game than one for "all the marbles" with two undefeated (in conference) teams. If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best -- and that seems to go for both teams this year, doesn't it?(Actually, for those of you Hawaii fans that think your team is the best in the WAC, just take a little time to compare how your team has done compared to how BSU has done against their five common opponents this year -- oops!)
So, "Good luck!" in Reno, Warriors -- we'll see you on the 23rd in your place and it should be a great game.
p.s. As much as I tire of all the Heisman hype surrounding Mr. Brennan -- deserved or not -- I seriously admire his decision to return for his senior year and respect and thank him for showing such class. I hope he recuperates and is able to bring his best game to the showdown -- both teams (and the WAC) deserve nothing less.

Read this article Hawaii Fans, you'll love it. It was in ST Blog, Honolulu Advertiser this morning.

Having watched the Nevada-Boise State game, it's obvious that Nevada pass defense sucks big time. Therefore, I conclude Colt (or Tyler) will pick them apart. The ONLY question is whether our defense can hold them down.

Idaho is coming off a bye week, and should be well rested heading into Saturday's matchup. Akey said although beating a rival is extra special, when it comes down to the basics, his team just needs to pick up win number two.
"It doesn't matter who we're playing," said Akey. "A win on Saturday is going to do a lot for this football team and our Vandal fans, our program. Everybody."
DON'T LOOK AHEAD TO THE WARRIOR GAME. YOU BETTER LOOK IN YOUR BACKYARD FIRST. IDAHO WILL HURT YOU GUYS SO BAD...
WE'LL FINISH YOU OFF THE DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING DAY!!!

Do you just go around to every forum and paste the same thing over and over again? Boring as hell...and in case you didn't read my response on the other forum topic named the same as this one, here it is again.
Wow...Idaho hurt us so bad.*rolls eyes*
Pretty annoying huh 808Pearl?
Btw..I don't know why it says I'm from CO, I'm actually from Idaho, right near Boise.

so my reply was a waste of time hhaa, oh well.
i love boise state and i think they'll beat hawaii, but if they don't i hope hawaii gets to go to a bcs bowl game. they would deserve it if they win all their games even if they did have a very easy start. it would be better if they got the fiesta bowl than the sugar bowl though, since the sugar bowl is 5 time zones away and that'd put them at an even bigger disadvantage. They probably wouldn't have as many fans attend either, which wouldn't look good for any possible future bids to bcs bowls by UH, no matter how deserving.
#15 Nov 18, 2007
BCS SUGAR BOWL representative on BSUs chancesto go to the sugar bowl. Pretty cool, I agree with what you said easy, i think boise will win, but if UH pulls it out then they deserve the bowl. I have a feeling its going to be tough for UH to go to the sugar bowl becuase i seroiusly doubt they can get that many fans to travel, if it was the fiesta bowl it would be different. Going to be an interesting week and interesting December. Go WAC and GO BSU!

other than his comments on colt brennan not being a system qb he is pretty much right on
#20 Nov 18, 2007
Too bad they haven't shined yet. Their point spreads against the easy WAC teams weren't very shiny, that's for sure. And the games against the TWO 1AA teams, frankly, just don't count because they were jokes. Some of our highschool football teams could've beat 'em. I think Boise will beat Hawaii easily but it'll still be an exciting game...at least for the first half since Hawaii likes to peter out after that. GO BRONCOS!
#21 Nov 18, 2007
I post it to all because I'm ranting. Just as you and bsublue keeps bringing up our schedule, and how you did better because of points you scored against the same team.
Here's my reason why; June don't believe in running up scores when the team is already beaten. He pulls COLT out in many games because there's no point in doing so. First half, most games are already won, so June puts the rest of the team to get them game ready and also be evaluated in real game situations.
BSU don't do that, they play their first team to the very end. They run up scores to impress the pollsters. Well, it didn't impress anyone from the BCS this week.
We beat Nevada with a second string quarterback. That's why we moved up one and you guys dropped one in the standings.
