Under the terms of the BCS systems only #1 and #2 were mandated to play each other. All the other BCS bowls were free to select from the rest. The Rose Bowl selected Illinois because of the old school PAC10/BIG 10 Traditon.$$$$ talks again.
I doubt that any BCS bowl was ever going to put Illinois and UH together. Too bad Frazier's long-time Fiesta Bowl connections didn't return his calls, eh?
