He is a good guy, and it shows with his decision, putting family first. I wish him the best. He will always be a part of the Greyhound family.

This story - as long as there isn't an administrative muscling-out process going on here - has all the makings of an incredible sports story if Royce Waltman is successful in his second go-around and UIndy doesn't find a permanent replacement in the next few weeks.
College player becomes assistant coach; follows coach to little bigger program; assistant takes over when coach goes to even bigger program; former assistant becomes very successful and brings mentor back after things get rocky at third school; coach decides to go do something else with life and mentor takes over again...If U of I has a good year this year, that's a Disney movie script!

Congratulations on a successful coaching career at UIndy, Coach Sturgeon. Your teams created some much needed excitement on campus. Best wishes to you! We all know you'll be successful in whatever path you choose next!

While I'm only a casual observer of U-I sports, I'd like to applaud Coach S. for his decision. It isn't easy to take a step back from a career that you love. Maybe we could all (myself included) learn a little something here about priorities.
Congrats Coach, I'm sure you'll be a success in whatever you pursue in the future.

A buddy of mine played under Waltman when Sturg was the assistant back in the early 90's. He thought the world of Sturg.

His decision goes right in line with the kind of person my buddy said he was.

Wins and loses are what most people point to for success...but the impact that you left on your players is what is most important.

Congrats Coach on a great job at U of I.

No more coach sturg kicking and punching his fist when he gets mad, that's too bad, I always enjoye the animated coach. Good luck to you in the future Coach Sturg!

I love the recycled coaches carousel. Was Norv Turner or Bob Hill unavailable?

As a hooiser transplanted in Edwardsville, Illinois I have enjoyed watching him coach his team the past 8 years. He usually had tehm ready to play, coached the entire game and got a lot out of his players. Best of luck to him.
