UTEP Miners earn gritty victory: Win over Houston sets up showd...

Full story: El Paso Times 41
The plan was to pound it. And pound it. And pound it some more. Houston raced away to a big lead before the Miners began implementing that plan -- but once UTEP began to pound the ball inside, deep down in the paint to the big fellas, this dance was over. Read more

We were about 10,500 tonite, where were the rest of you!? Im a 17yr season ticket holder, and im not gonna be like the other jack-holes that come on here and call other Utep fans, bandwagon fans! Utep did not play well but as it's said,a win is a win. In my opinion,Caracter put the game in his hands and won the game for Utep. They need to play a whole lot better on Saturday if they are going to beat Tulsa. Houston is a bad team and Utep just put enough to win. I would expect Utep to play a whole lot better on Saturday on National Television to be in first place of the conference by themselves. Saturday's game has all the makings for a great game. What more could Espn 2 ask for??

Caracter is our franchise player. He will be the one to carry us into the tourney for at least two rounds. The other players do not have his level of confidence except for Culpepper but you cannot depend on him. I like Williams he is a solid performer. Stone needs to find himself out there. He is a smart player and in a bit of a funk but we need his leadership out there to control the team because we will not be able to pound it in or control the boards every night. We need to run the offense better and set better picks with better shot selections. Free throws are mental at this level, unless one is just a total brick layer. We have to improve at the line. Players need to dedicate personal time and practice their free throws.

Houston really wanted this game. The Miners defense was incredible. Offensively, we would have lost big time if not for the inside game of Caracter. Too many failed outside jumpers. Free throws a problem. Fans were loud, you'd think with all our recent success the Don would have been packed. Come on El Paso, get behind the Miners! We have a winner here!!!! Congrats on the win team and really take it to Tulsa!

I'm sure that you are a better player than any one on the team and could do a much better job. Maybe Houston had a lot to say about the great job the Miners did.

You are an idiot!!

Great game Miners. I'm glad this game was televised. Even though the game wasn't a sell out, the commentators kept complimenting the fans. We need to sell out the Don! Can't wait for Saturday's game against Tulsa on ESPN2. Go Miners!

The mark of a good team is to win even when you don't play your best. This team got back into the game and won 'defensively' not offensively. We did do a great job of fighting for the inside baskets but while our shots were not falling as one would like and we shot really poorly at the free throw line, our defense was spectacular. For those that say we didn't play our best, I think that's true...on offense. But defense wins championships.
