Vomitory. A nice Latin distinction from Vomitorium , the modern version of which has handrails on both sides , for some support while you are talking to "ralph".

Thanks for your off-topic, funny (?) post. Since you live in AZ, why don't you post your inane comments on the sites of newspapers there?

Back to the topic. In all the years I've been going to Aloha Stadium, the ushers are known for standing around doing NOTHING! Argumentative drunk fans and other problems, you name it, when did you EVER see an usher get involved? I can believe that ushers tell orange seat fans to fill up the blue seats. The UH athletic department, under Frazier and Jones, were real conscious that television coverage would show a packed stadium and the word got to ushers to make sure the seats in range of the cameras were all filled.

All that Scott Chan and UH has to do is take some of the money that rolls in from the super-high prices at the concession stands and HIRE MORE USHERS! UH atletics is killing to goose that lays the golden eggs with their treatment of fans at Aloha Stadium.

To the person who wrote this letter to Kokua Line: do what we do. Don't go to the stadium, stay home and watch the games on pay-per-voew. No traffic woes, no vandalism of your car by "fans", no obnoxious drunks picking fights and womiting, no high-priced "food" at the concessions, no rude ushers trying their best to avoid doing their jobs. We get to actually enjoy the games and yell "Go Bows" all we want.

It would be kind of nice to get back to the days of college athletics. What we have now is farm teams for Pro sports. Look at the money that sloshes around at UH athletic dept. and tell me that benefits the education purpose that our tax dollars pay for ?

Thanks for the tip. Now I know I can pay for cheap seats and move down to the good seats.

As long as the season ticketholders in the high-costs sections are not present, I don't see any reason not to move down or over.

Why doesn't the complainant take pictures and confront these people directly if he is so offended. How does it impact his viewing experience?

The premium charge is not put on one's tickets to improve our time in Aloha Stadium but to support the football program at UH Manoa. We also get to deduct a chunk of it on your income taxes.

Cheap tickets are not so cheap anymore so even though we're season ticket holders also paying a premium for our south end zone seats, I have no objection to people moving into the seats as long as they're empty.

It's better to have the fans in the stadium than sitting at home watching PPV.

Excellent idea!!!! Much more fun at home.
Last season, just for fun, we choose 1 game and made it a stadium game at home.
We charged the gang for parking in front of our house, had a couple of guys walking around the house during the game yelling at others and spilling beer on the lanai, charged outragous prices for the pot luck food, had someone else sit in the bathroom for excessively long periods of time (causing a line) and during the last 2 minutes of the game had the kids who didn't care about the game spray shaving creme on our friend's cars on the street.(Of course, after the game the kids hosed down the cars and lanai while playing water fight with a couple of hoses). It was actually rather pleasant, and the comment "This reminds me of why I don't go to the games at the stadium anymore" was uttered by many there.
The money we made from the inflated prices paid for that years pay for view.
We plan to do it again this coming season. We are thinking of getting a couple of the kids cops costumes and some sort of flashing lights and siren so they can walk around the house after the game rousting people and tell them to move it along cause the parking lot is closing.

Jeesh...Ushers not enforcing the seat assignments. Sounds like a cop-out. If someone who's hired as an usher doesn't want to do the work s/he is supposed to do, than I suggest s/he find another job.

Yeah, whoever judged our party to be nuts is right!
It was nuts! We had a great time!
That's part of the beauty of staying home and watching the game on TV...we can act however we want (just so we don't break any laws).
The neighbors don't care since they are watching the game with us and are having a good time.
Another big plus is that we can Bar B Q before, during and after the game!

How do you spell "sucker"? As long as the Ainokea scofflaws dominate the social and civic culture in Hawaii, with their total focus on their own selfish (and low class) interests, anyone who pays a premium and expects the rules to be enforced is a fool. This applies to paying for vehicle insurance, parking a nice car at parks (local thug thieves), helping to provide computers for schools (burglars invade). Why anyone would want to go to Aloha Stadium and be exposed to all the beer-swilling, size XXXL wearing, phony reggae wanna-be athletes is beyond me. The letter writer rightly feels ripped off and all the management can do is say we can't do anything about it, putting the burden on the aggrieved customer to enforce the policy. What a joke!

The reason Mr. Chan gave is ridicules; although I understand the situation he and his staff are in that does not excuse his unwillingness to see that his people are doing there job. The woman and her family are paying for those seats and the right to be there and have done so for over 35 years. I believe in her case you should either stop charging the premium of $ 200.00 for each seat or stop the cheating (at the very least try). Your reasons are just that EXCUSES for not doing the job. One solution maybe, if you care to even attempt to alleviate the problem would be to temporarily assign an additional usher to that section to ensure the patrons are directed to the proper seating area. Don’t you think it’s worth a try? It wouldn’t have to be on a regular basis but only as needed. OR have a supervisor or security randomly check the section and they can report to the usher and then the usher can do the enforcement.
