It's been a long time coming for the Retrievers. Congrats Coach Monroe and all the long-suffering fans!

At the end of ESPN2's broadcast, they sent it back to the studio, where Karl Ravech, Steve Lavin and JImmy Dykes gave the Retrievers their quick due, as is customary after any game. Then Ravech said, "...today, really reserved, though, for those power conferences." He couldn't have been more wrong. Saturday was about the UMBCs and Coppin States and Mississippi Valley States winning do-or-die games, not schools from larger conferences earning a 3 seed instead of a 2 or 4... Bring on the Hoyas! ;)

I get the context of the headline, but just to keep the news integrity real, the mascot for UMBC is the Chesapeake Retriever, State Dog of Maryland. This is like you calling the Ravens a Golden Eagle.....

UMBC's athletic director comments about the difference between UMBC and UM basketball players was completely ridiculous. Yes, it's a huge win for their program who always sits in the shadow of UM. Comments like that shows how insignificant UMBC's program really is. It is like the first time the AD was asked a question by the press. Good luck in the NCAA!

I agree with Steve. Very cheap shot. Even though its probably true, that comment was not necessary. I do wish you luck in the NCAA but comments like that only bring the coach down.

As a part-time middle school teacher, I'd just like to comment that Steve and Gary sound just like those middle school kids I have to deal with.

"But...but...but, they're not the cool kids, so they don't matter!!!"
