John--I stand by what I posted earlier and further emphasize, Dave Neal WILL help the team considerably when he gets back.

I say that for the reasons I mentioned along with the good points made by Graybeard Terps Fan and another of added. Dave Neal's return: 1. deepens the bench (desperately needed on a team with so many freshmen); 2. thus giving Gary more options, so the team doesn't have as many players in danger of fouling out and can give the opponent different looks and match-ups; 3. brings in a player very experienced with the Terps' system, especially the flex offensive; 4. brings a stablizing influence when the youngsters may be letting things get out of control, and 5. gives the Terps a widebody on the defensive end of the floor who can grab some rebounds, block a couple shots and give some fouls when need be (any scoring is a bonus).

Neither Graybeard nor myself was suggesting that Neal will be the star (though he's certainly better than a Division II player) who can singlehandedly turn the team around, only that he will give Gary Williams another piece of the puzzle in making the Terps a good team. If Gary can get his full squad back soon, I still think this can be a pretty decent team.

John AOL: Neal is a journeyman player who can help a team. Period. That's all that's being claimed here.

BTW, we're on the same page about the single-stream, uni-directionalism of athletic department revenues. The money pools up in those precincts like blood in an enlarged heart. Big time college sports are a racket, a form of cost-plus capitalism for the athletic interests and the booster who run these programs. Us fans put up with it because we are fans, in the fanatic sense of the word.

U OF M LOOKS PRETTY PATHETIC. DISAPPOINTING IS THE PLAY OF RETURNING PLAYERS AND THEIR LACK OF OFFENSIVE CAPABILITY.VASQUEZ IS PRETTY MUCH OUT OF CONTROL AND HAYES JUST REFUSES TO SHOOT. GIST DOESN'T HUSTLE ALL THE TIME AND IREALLY IS OVERMATCHED AGAINST GOOD POST PLAYERS.PLAY THE FRESHMAN AND TELL THEM TO SHOOT INSTEAD OF PASSING OFF AS SOON AS THEY TOUCH IT.TUCKER IS GOING TO BE GOOD AND MAKES MILBOURNE LOOK AVERAGE.BUT, CAN'T EXPECT TOO MUCH FROM 2ND TIER RECRUITS YET. TOO EARLY. GARY WILL HAVE THEM PLAYING BETTER BY JANUARY, BUT LOOKS LIKE A NO TOURNAMENT YEAR FOR SURE.
