My son had this teacher last year and he never came to school drunk or stoned and never tried to sell any to my son. I have to wonder how many parents have gone to pick up their children and had beer or wine in their car and how they would feel if they were arrested for having it on school grounds because they would be just as guilty even if they were swinging by after a trip to the grocery store. This is where the changes have to be made, start with the no tolerance policy. That is a joke. There are black and white and gray areas to most every issue and this no tolerance stuff is just a mess. Hold people accountable for what they do but someone needs to make the decisions and figure out what is going on rather than just going across the board. This man probably did not have any intention of using this stuff at school or subjecting any of his students to it and now almost 20 years of teaching at this school is down the drain because of 6 seeds and some UNOPENED beer! Give me a break.

And my son went to a Christian private school until the 10th grade when I moved him to Kecoughtan and first of all, he says the students are no worse ate KHS than they were at his old school. Second, he is likes it better and this move is one of the best things I ever did for him. He is in ROTC and so he has a base of kids he hangs out with and not to say the ROTC kids are perfect but the instructor does his best to try to make them good examples and if your child takes it seriously and not as an 'easy grade' it is one of the best things you can do for your child if he/she is in public school.

Just another reason to NOT use the public school system in VA! Look who's teaching our children! W hat a joke!
this "POTHEEAD" students had the " Highest" SOL scores in the city of Hampton. I wonder if the reverse racism from the Franklin Diversiy Workshop is a reality. You have to lovitt when a staff aide can rise to become an assistant principal without teaching.

What a great school system and I wonder what happened to the superintendent on these two issues ???? and the shame of it all is parents allow these peole to continue to teach. But then they the kids will do what they see at home too.

This guy was a joke,he knew nothing about basketball and gave some educated story on everything. He relied on a one man offfense and hoped we had more points and the end of the game. Six seeds........he peobably wish he had taken them out of the car. But let's don't lose focus that he's a teacher and a coach, I'm my eyes that is child neglect and btw his coaching jerseys were found at a local thift store days after the incident...talk about dedication.

Hey moron, we haven't heard anymore from you. The six so called pot seeds, when subjected to lab analysis and not the nose of a dog, turned out to be dirt. So now we have a teacher with unopened, hot beer in his trunk and six pieces of dirt. Pieces of dirt, rush to judgement, slander, I hope Hampton pays dearly for this move. I know for a fact, the lawsuit is coming.

Typically I'm not a litigious person, however in this case, I hope this man does sue Hampton and I hope he wins BIG! They treated him like he was guilty before they knew if the seeds were weed seeds. As for the hot beer in the trunk, that could have been almost any parent going to pick up their child from school after grocery shopping with a bottle of wine or a six pack in their trunk.

I was one of Coach Forrest's students last year. The man may have had his flaws but he is a great teacher. He had an honors class that i was in last year and i am sure that most of his students will agree that he knew his stuff. His private life is none of our business. however he made it my parents and others business by bringing his personal life around over 1000 hish school students. we see and smell drugs in kecoughtan and othere schools everyday i doubt that this situation influenced anyone that doesnt already do drugs, unless they allow it to influence them. There are alot of positive things about the hampton city schools also. For the parent that said that hampton has the worst schools. Let me say this, it is alot worse. i have been to about 5 different high schools. and kecoughtan is by far the best school that i have attended. i am out of zone just to attend there. i love it. it is the most diverse, and accepting school. alot of the schools segregate themselves. kecoughtan is the checker board school. everyone hangs out with everyone.it is not aq bad school.the decisions that are made by young people are no different than the decisions that have been made in past generations. The teacher is not a perfect man. he will pay his debt tosociety and should be left alone afterwards.

you do know thse seeds were negative and tested as bird seed. I am sure coach forrest is thankfil for your support. however his record was expunged yet the community showed littlt ouyrage to the press or hampton city schools. had he been African- American this story would have ended with a major uproar. His debt was more than payed. He payed with his career even though he was innocent.

If "Zero Tolerance" is the order of the day Lennie Routten would have been voted of the board for his reckless use of a firearm and killing of an animal that is clearly protected under a city ordinance. Further, his moral conduct would have dictated that the board remove him for his affair with a school system employee while married and residing with his wife.
Until the "rules" apply fairly across the board for all these travesties will persist.
The public has a right to expect it's school personnel and elected/appointed board members to meet the standards that their children are required to meet.

AGREE!

Several years ago my neighbor's daughter was put out of school for SIX WEEKS before her case could be heard by the board. She was found to have a girl scout knife that was accidentally left in her backpack from a weekend sleep over at her grandparents.

She didn't know the knife was there and it wasn't discovered until another boy in her class pilfered her pack and came up with the knife.

For this accidental transgression the superintendent and board wanted her suspended for a year! Only one board member saw the absurdity
of the situation and argued for her reinstatement in class.....it wasn't Mr. Routten.
