Bullcrap. Richt gets paid millions per year so he will win. We don't pay him to be a nice guy or congratulate him for running a clean program. With the talent UGA possesses on their football team, a good coach would win 10 games a year and be in the hunt for a national championship. Last year we cleaned house on the coaching staff and look at the results. It's obvious Richt and Bobo need to go. He's been successful in the past, but previous success doesn't guarantee future wins. And it's ridiculous to imply that any coach that wins will sacrifice integrity in order to do it.

Ridiculous article. Everyone goes on and on about how "classy" Richt and the Georgia program is. Give me a break - 10 arrests in a year is NOT classy. These men are undisciplined and unprepared, both mentally and physically. They have lost their grasp of simple fundamentals like tackling and being in position. The team is failing in almost every facet of the game. This falls squarely within the realm of coaching. UGA was preseason #1 a few years ago and had a disappointing end. Last year was an embarrassment and this year is looking worse. Richt deserves all the heat he's getting.

Being a coach at a top-tier SEC school is tough. The days of Bear, Shug, and Dooley going 25 years at their school are over -- unless you can win at least 10 every year.
When you are consistently pulling in great recruiting classes and have top notch facilities, fans expect a lot. Sometimes those expectations are unrealistic -- the dawgies are always undefeated in Augusts -- but they are there nonetheless.
An 8-5 season might satisfy Colorado fans, but unless it is an improvement over the previous year (and the fans recognize the program is in a rebuilding stage), it's not going to cut it at the top six SEC schools.
I'm not saying that is right, just that that is how it is in today's college football environment, where you have multi-million dollar TV contracts and AD budgets and the expectations to match -- and where you also have powerful alumni who like to get involved.
Richt is on the hot seat. Based on his body of work at UGA, he should not be, but he is. While he may represent UGA well, his players too often do not, bringing unwanted attention to the school's reputation as a top-ranked party school. Win 11+ games and nobody cares, lose your first three SEC games, two of which to teams not normally considered top-tier SEC football schools, and you had better hunker down and start winning or you will be sacked at season's end.
There is a tremendous amount of pressure to win, but there is also a lot of compensation for doing so.

Absolutely right that Mark Richt is on the hot seat. He is the 3rd highest paid coach in the SEC and the football program has been in serious decline. It's a tough conference, but Mark Richt has been given almost unlimited resources (and 2.8 mil per year) to produce football teams that can compete at the national level. Beating AA teams and Colorado don't count for much. What matters is beating your conferance foes and in that he's 2-7 over this and last season. More importantly, these are not close games that were well played. He'll get another season in Athens, no matter what he does this year. But if there is not SERIOUS improvement next season, then I hope he's gone.

Wow! A writer who gets it! The memory of coaches Ray Goff and Jim Donnan seem to be long forgotten, when the Bulldog football program was a joke. Even the great Vince Dooley had 3 5-win seasons and 3 six-win years - but those were during different times. Richt came in and immediately had success - maybe too quickly. You're right - it's the "what have you done for me lately" squad that wants success now - all the time. And how many Goffs/Donnans/Kiffins are out there just waiting to replace Richt?

There is a major point that you--and most other people--seems to brush to the side in this whole thing. It isn't about wins and losses for Richt and UGA. And it's not just about the arrests. You're probably right that fans wouldn't care about the arrests if the team was winning championships. But there are underlying issues in both of these things that leads to one major point: Richt no longer has control of this program. That is evident in its every facet. Stupid penalties on the field, less than 100% effort, lack of preparation and stupid mental errors. The culprit in each of these problems is the same culprit that has lead to 10 Bulldog arrests. The program has a complete lack of order, discipline and proper respect for the men in charge. Players don't think and coaches don't DEMAND them to think. This isn't just a case of "what have you done for me lately?" It's a case of WHY is it happening? The why in this case signals many problems--and they all lead to the men in charge. Arguing for Richt's job is futile at this point. The only way he deserves it--or can even keep it--is if he can begin to make a change in the culture of the program.

How is the UGA program NOT an embarrassment to the university? Year after year, arrest after arrest? How much are they paying you?

I love mark richt as a person, but YES he should be on the Hot seat. He has Lots of Wins here at UGA, which gives him the great win percentage. But overall, since he's been here, How many National championships have we won? How many have we even played for?? 0..Each year we sit back and watch LSU, FLA, AND BAMA go on to win. We have been the team that can win a lot of games, but can't win the big ones when it matters. If he didn't coach knowshon and stafford to a national championship he wont coach these guys to one either. And dont get me started on the penalties over the last few years. having been a college athlete, that comes down to DISCIPLINE!!!!! And where does DISCIPLINE come from?? THE COACHING STAFF!!! I dont see saban puttin up with that penalty crap. He wouldnt stand for it. But the first step should be relieving BOBO of his play calling dutties. Send him up to the booth to watch from up there and make suggestions, but ultimately Richt should be play calling, esspecially now that he's got something to prove. GO DAWGS

This would not even be an issue had the following NOT occured:

1) Ealey fubmles the ball on the goal line during the 4th quarter of the South Carolina game. Might have still lost, but we'll never know.
2) Ealey missed a block in the final minutes of the Arkansas game that led to Murray getting sacked. We could have tied that game up and might have won had it not been for that sack.
3) Ealey makes another game changing fumble in the Mississippi State game.

The Dawgs very well could be at 4-0 right now had it not been for those three plays. Just my opinion. Yes, Richt needs to get control of this team, but to put him on the hot seat? Give me a break! And what good is that doing for Richt's confidence right now? Anyone want to take a look at Mike Bobo, or do we just want to blame the Head Coach? Isn't the O-Line partly to blame? How about the play calling? Or better yet, why not look straight at Ealey? I'm just saying there are several reason why this program is suffering right now, and to point the finger soley at Richt is insane.

I'm glad Ealey got benched for the CU game. I was big on him last year, but he has failed miserably this year. So let's look at this up real quick: Two fumbles and a missed block from Ealey that could have changed the outcome of those games, horrible play calling from Bobo, virtually zero O-Line, and AJ Green hasn't even been able to play, but yet we want to put Mark Richt on the hot seat? Wow. Like the author said...only in the SEC. And I didn't even mention the defense. Where is the fire I saw in Todd Grantham during the 1st game? Oh what's the use, y'all will ultimately get your wish anyway, Richt will be gone, and Kirby Smart will turn the offer down AGAIN. So whose it gonna be? Who are we gonna fall in love with next, and then out of love once they stumble? If Richt's record isn't good enough, nobody's will be.

dude do you even follow our program. Its just not this year as far as arrests go we have had over 40 in his tenure. Since 2007 our players have made mental mistake after mental mistake thats coaching period, yeah he has a great record in the beginning of his period but look at it since 2007. The sec has changed and he has not, nor wants to change anything.

I totally agree, Mark Richt is an amazing coach. Everyone is going to have the up's and down's in their job. That is just life. I am proud to say that GA has an amazing coach who really cares about the kids not just the game. Mark Richt is the reason I am a Dawgs fan. If the school were to get rid of Richt I am not so sure I would stay a fan. People need to realize there is more to life than football. It is not just winning but, how you win.

Im just wandering if you "fire the coach" bobble heads really believe that UGA is the only college that students drink alcohol. If any of you went to college i feel quite sure you may have consumed an alcoholic beverage and you did not get caught, congrats to you!
now during the most successful years for GA Richt was doing most of the play calling. for some reason he turned that over to Bobo. I would say he does need to take that back. He does a better job than Bobo.
i also remember these same comments about "fire the coach" in 2007 after the loss to Tennessee. UGA went on to beat everyone esle on the schedule. the talk went away. UGA was left out of the national championship because we did not win our division. Strange thing is we were ranked number two in the nation and not allowed to play in the title game. Nebraska however was allowed to play in the title game in the same situation. No doubt we would have won the title in in 2008 title game instead LSU. Ask any program if they would be upset if they won 10 ganes a year and only had one "bad" season at 8-5. I thank we should be proud to be a Dawg fan and not just a "fair weather" fan

Here we are as Georgia Fans at 1-4 and 0-3 in the SEC at the first of the year that would be 2010 Georgia was believed to be the team to beat in the SEC East.We have to do something on defence and offence if we gonna win some games Mr. Richt is gonnahave to tighten down and show some temper and anger you know like (Spurrier)and let the nice guy thing go I know he's a real great Christin guy but sometimes we need a little maddeness.Lets get it together and do some whipping on the Vols next week.------GO DAWGS
