Jan 15, 2010 Full story: Miami New Times 524

Tim Tebow may never have another chance to be associated with a Super Bowl, but why is he recording an ad for Focus on the Family? Yes, the James Dobson founded group announced today that they will air a 30 second commercial during the big game that will start former University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow and his mother Pam, according to The ...

I work with a Florida alumnus. He used to be a marital therapist. The Gator told me about his work. It sounds hard. Most marriages don't work out. The divorce rate is about 50%, and infidelity is very common. I joked with him about marital statistics. I said "The goal of having a perfect marriage is like trying to go undefeated in the SEC Conference for football. For most people, it's not realistic." He laughed and agreed.

Probably the hardest thing for Tebow would be temptation in his mid 30s and beyond. From living in Florida, I can tell you that guys in that age group will still get lots of chances for young spring break hotties. I did. Check back in 2025 to see if his marriage goes the distance. To be fair, maybe it will. But it would be hard with all that temptation around here. So that's the problem in Florida for young Protestants. It's easy to meet a southern belle at a very young age, but it gets hard to stay married when the guy continues to have many, many chances to meet southern belles well into his 30s and 40s. That is especially true for athletes with strong legacies and a huge fan base.

Tebow wears his religion on his shirtsleeve (oops I mean face) and is now in bed with the anti-Gay culture warriors. He's gotta be a hypocrite.

The state rivalries get intense in Florida. FSU often claims to have the hottest college women. But then so do USF and Miami. UCF also stakes that claim. The rival students often try to portray Florida as an "academic" school with no beautiful women. There are many facebook groups that try to lampoon the Gators for that reason. But that is an atomistic fallacy. Tebow will be tempted 10-20 years down the future if he rushes into marriage now. The reality is that all the in-state campuses have beautiful women (USF, UCF, UF, FSU, Miami, UNF, FIU, UWF, etc). Florida is a big state with plenty of beaches, sunshine, and college hotties. I remember when four of them tried to jump into my F-150 near FSU. But I don't have to worry about temptation since I am not married. Some of those married guys around here must be boiling underneath though. To be fair, there are guys who are loyal to their wives. They should be commended with all the temptation around here.

I'm not a church goer or a GATOR fan, but I have the utmost respect for TIM.
He talks the talk and walks the walk.
It a shame that he is so uncommon in this day and time. GOOD FOR TIM, ROCK ON !

It's not an anti gay ad, it's an anti abortion ad telling the story of when Pam his mother was pregnant with Tim. Although Tim tebow is very religous you know the kids too smart to get in the middle of all the gay hoopla going on in the country right now. Tims a good guy. I look up to him and respect him.

Focus on the Family's primary goal is to abuse Gays. You have a right to respect him. I have a right to call him out for working with vicious anti-Gay bigots.

Now, I let you folks in Florida to endorse FOTFs pro-life by opposing health care for the poor, oppose any HIV/AIDS prevention efforts for Gay men, ensure that thousands of Florida children stay in your non-functional foster care system because Gays are barred by law from adopting, and using millions of dollars working on the culture war (including this ad) instead of helping a nation and world with true charity ("Rice Christian" charity doesn't count).

I read that book by Brian Bosworth - the outrageous, hyper-aggressive OU linebacker from the 1980s who played for Barry Switzer. The Boz was from Texas. He writes about all the classic rivalries of the time: OU versus Miami, OU versus Texas, OU versus Nebraska, etc. The book also blatantly reveals the large number of female groupies that elite college football players have to deal with. The women were beautiful, but Brian's book reveals some realities. He talked about how personality and communication are also important because "looks get old." Today, the "Boz" is divorced. That was a star football player who had no problem meeting beautiful women back in the 1980s. He is definitely middle-aged now with the bright, white hair. His marriage didn't go the distance.

By the way, if Tim Tebow is such a "Christian", how can he work on the 'lords day of rest', Sunday? Isn't that gonna be a bit of a problem for him.

Ooooooh. I forgot. Fundamentalists never apply the Bible to themselves. Its only to others.

If an individual is a real Christian, HE IS ANTI-GAY! I'm a real Christian! Tebow is a real Chrisitan! So, we're against being GAY!!!

Both Christians and Non-Christians have the same divorce rate. The only difference is that the Christians ARE GOING TO HEAVEN!:)

I'm Gay. I get judged all day long by Fundies who hate me.

Not all "Christians" hate gay people. But Dobson and his Fraud on the Family organization are dedicated to hatred of Gay people.

How can a person living the divorced lifestyle go to heaven if Gays who live the Gay lifestyle cannot?

Relative morality. Its the fundamentalist way.

I'm wondering if Tebow will ever wear Exodus 20:8-11 on his face while he works on Sunday in the NFL.

On the contrary, Christians do the same things as non-Christians except that Christians believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and Non-Christians don't believe that! When a Christian is in fellowship with God, we do not hate gay people or any of God's creation for that matter........And,(GOD) HE created everything too! Plus, the Bible says that gays are condemned already! God says that! Gays are just mislead into thinking it's okay to be gay; and it's okay with God. God loves gays. But, he still wants them not to be gay. That is His Will. God made woman for man from man's rib to be his helper and was a woman God made. Read Genesis 2:18-25........

Please put it into context, the WHOLE BIBLE PLEASE......Maybe he should have 'Read the whole Bible in Context' because when you take a few verses out of the Bible, you can come to your own conclusion about what the 'THE WHOLE BIBLE SAYS' Sir, have you read the whole Bible in context to making such an accusation for Tebow not being able to work on Sundays because it is the Sabbath? For me to come to conclusions like you did about Tebow, I would first suggest to you and to me to study the Bible, the whole Bible before judging Tim on his Christianity.......because from the way you speak, you are not a Christian..........and Christians are assured of Everlasting life. It's a free gift just by believing in Jesus for it (John 3:16)......And, whether Tim plays on Sundays or not is not going to determine whether he goes to heaven or not!:|

Have you ever heard of 'Believe' and 'Receive'

That means 'BELIEVE in Jesus for Everlasting life' and 'RECEIVE the free gift of Salvation'.........
