Where are the 20-30 UK fans telling us how great 24,000 was. And the tradition! Don't forget we have so little basketball support that Billy was fed up with it and on his way to Lexington.

I was told to get a reality check, when in all reality it was those UK fans who needed it.

Mike,

First congratulations to UF, the players and the school for achieving the back to back basketball championship.

By the way I am a died in the wool UK Graduate and fan, growing up in Lexington I've followed the Cats from the early 60's.

As much as it pains me to say it you are partially correct in your statements regarding the UK Donovan debacle.

Donovan played UK's opening position it to his advantage, then again what intellegent individual in that position wouldn't play his current employer against the one competitor in his region that could pull the feat off.

Even you believed it was a possibility with your pleading columns to Billy to stay, every UF fan from Gainesville to Key West was concerned that Billy might go to UK.

However it would be naive to believe Donovan did so only to badger UK and to vault UF in order to improve his recruiting.

Personally if I were the AD at UK the job would have never been offered to him. However mounting press reports and rumors left Barnhardt in a tough position, he was darned if he did and darned if he didn't.

Talking to Donovan only helped Donovan and UF and did nothing to help UK. UK would have been better served by eschewing the press and rumors and doing it's own thing elsewhere telling UF and the world, we don't need your help.

So again you're right Donovan played Barnhardt and many UK fans against themselves.

You are incorrect though in some of your assumptions. Technically Donovan wasn't offered the job, he was asked if he would like to discuss the job, symantics yes but that's the difference between and interview and being offered a position.

Again this was done to appease the masses at UK, the press and quell the Donovan Debacle. A mistake by UK no doubt.

Interesting in that less than 24 hours after the Donovan debacle was done, UK hired Billie Gillispie A&M's coach who has resurrected programs, recruited on of the top prospects in basketball Acie Law. He will be a good coach for UK.

UK's been through down seasons, poor coaching, poor recruiting only to return to the top of the mountain.

Don't count UK out, then again, go ahead and believe your own hype, keep ignoring UK, doesn't bother me we'll be back, we always do!

Donovan has said in the past that if Kentucky ever called him about a head coaching job, he would listen out of respect for their program. He has also said in the past that he would like to stay at Florida as long as the Gators will have him. These statements are not contradictory at all. In the end, he did exactly what he always said he would do - LISTEN to Kentucky, and STAY at Florida.

Steve from apopka is right. Billy was never offered the job. In spite of what he said, I and most Ky. Fans think just perhaps Billy wasn't up to the pressure that IS Kentucky Basketball. Unreasonable, maybe, unrealistic, some may say so. The success that U.K. fans have come to expect has been well documented across the nation and especially by this newspaper. Will Billy G. Get the job done? Only time will tell. The S.E.C. is establishing itself as a major player in NCAA hoops. Tenn. Vandy. U.K. Fla., I say bring it on to the Big 10 A.C.C. Pac.10. It's no longer U.K and the sisters of the poor... Let's move on...

Mikey, we just named the wrong Billy! All along we thought they meant Billy Donovan, but Billy Gillispie was the only one to be offered the job!
Guess us arrogant hillbillies just can't get it right! Billy Bob, Billy Joe, Billy Willy, we just have to add that second name....in this case it was Billy GILLISPIE!!!! GO CATS!!!!

I think it is great our U of F basketball team has won the National Title for the 2nd time in a row but it is a tragedy that the four young Juniors are ditching their college education to risk a gamble to be absorbed by the NBA. If the NBA had an ounce of respectability they would absolutely refuse to touch any kids like this till they graduated.
This sends again all he wrong messages: Go to college, bounce a ball, get a free athletic scholarship, get an NBA draft and soon you'll be on easy street like Shaq. I thought colleges and Universities were supposed to be preparing young me like this with a well rounded education not just to be fodder for the Romans to watch in the coliseum runnig around with the lions ?

It's actually Morehead State University - charter member of the Ohio Valley Conference. It hasn't been Morehead College since the 50's.

I would add...you have every right to be a braggart in the days following #2 National Championship. But I would warn you that in all things there are seasons, and a time will come when Florida hoops won't be living up to the 2006 and 2007 stature. They could find themselves on the losing end of the Wildcats and the 'rabib UK fans' will certainly let you know about it.

But, for now, enjoy your place in the sun and the satisfaction you get driving up the blood pressure of Cat fans.

Kentucky got the right Billy! Let us see in two years if the other Billy is even around college basketball. The lure of the NBA is strong! Very Strong!

Billy D staying in Hogtown and the way the dilusional UK fans acted has created another great rivalry for Florida. How many rivals does UF have anyways? It's great to be the King.

Talk about arrogant fans have a look at Florida football fans. They have been that way since Steve Superior was there. Fans could not believe that he would not crawl back to UF to coach the "beloved Gators." Thanks for an arrogant UK fan and Gator Hater!!!!!
