There is a regular pattern of early-decade and mid-decade SUS budget cuts going back at least to the early 90s when the SUS absorbed a 25% cut per FTE student. Early in this decade the cut was about 11%. It's past time for Florida's universities to start building substantial endowmments that will reduce depndence on the state budget and on tuition increases. Virginia's oldest universities have been successfully doing this. Why isn't Florida studying Virginia's example for guidance about using private endowment to fund public universities more adequately? Florida's legislature long ago acknowledged the importance of endowment when it established a narrowly focused program to match substantial private donations to the public universities. It's time to revisit the issue.

One way to cut back the budget is to fire the FAU president and appoint someone with fiscal ethics.

Financial entropy has finally arrrived in the State of Florida University System, spurred by the monetary collapse of FAMU.

The gravity of the statewide budget cuts over the next several years will suck the light out of the non-profits over the next decade if tuition and fees do not increase by at least 100% to reach a break-even-point. There's a lot of mental masturbation in play in the halls of Tallahassee but no real answers.

This won't be done on the back of the resident taxpayers or tourists either! Say "bye-bye" to the tenure trough for profs and "hello" to full-time contracts via attrition and scant newbie hires. Worky-work, busy bees!
