This wasn't easy. And you know what? It's not supposed to be easy. If the road to Tampa was thrown wide open for Tennessee and UConn , what good would that be for women's college basketball? They should have to ...

Geno barely held it together last night after that hug with Mel! Exactly why I love the guy! His "guys" mean the world to him!
Mel Thomas is a class act. I love her!!

Great article. I could crow about Swaniers perfromance, or McLaren's performance, or Charde's greatness, or Tina's foul shooting when it was needed, or Rene's relentless defense---But the truth is this was a TEAM win--not Maya, not Dianna, not Swin, not Sue, not Svet==but the ENTIRE UConn Women's Team.

Was I worried?? Did I ever lose heart?? Did I think Geno was out coached?? Sorrily yes to all the above. The outlook was dier. Down 15 and Maya taken out of the game. I was trying to think of the lies I would tell my friends who were Rutger fans.

But Geno and the greatest team in the country with hearts that just won't be stopped--sent C Vivian and her wonderfully talented young LADIES were dispatched after a nip and tuck battle that lasted until the final 2 minutes.

Hats off to all who played on both sides. But mostly congratulations to the UConn Women for winning a game that everyone (except you) thought was lost.

What's the old adage, "a picture is worth a thousand words" or something similar. The photo of Geno and Mel speaks for what this program is all about; why would the best High School recruits not want to join a program like this? I don't like Rutgers but they played a great game and gave it their all..I agree that they should have been in the Final Four. Vivian developed a great game plan that almost worked-give her credit for that. Rutgers supposedly has one of the top incoming classes, so this rivalry will only grow and flourish in the years ahead.
Mike---Right ON!!! UConn is great and deserves the final four---but C Vivian and her team are class and should not have had to play UConn again until the championship. Maybe this is the last time this kind of screw up will happen..
