Congratulations to John Altavilla who, this time, subjected unwary readers to seven paragraphs of his "witty" prose before telling us the score of the game!

This is reporting?

The only purpose behind these end-of-the-season tournaments is to let teams that don't belong in the NCAA tournament get an automatic bid. They are certainly not a showcase for great basketball. Teams playing 3 games in 3 nights have historically had games like the Uconn-Pitt one year after year. It should come to no surprise to anyone that a great team is capable of playing that way when they are tired. Geno talks about 21 year olds not getting tired because he wants the 21 year olds to believe it....but the proof is in the pudding. I, for one, would like to see an end to these end of the year tournaments and stop the all-about-money stuff.

"Filler for the pledge drives" ... John Altavilla: Ouwwwch!!!

Seriously, the back to back games do take a toll. And I think all the attention on Maya Moore probably distracted the players too (including Maya). Hope they know that EVERYBODY'S a superstar - including Maya - that's been the philosophy of this team all along.

AND THANK YOU GOV. RELL! What a great way to step into the impasse and show leadership, calling ESPN and the others. Well done!(p.s. like the "One Thing" environmental initiative, too.

John's writing is very witty. I laughed aloud at several of his sly digs.

Thanks, John.

do you not own a TV guide or know how to find out when *anything* is on TV?

reporting about the game *is* what John did ... it's not his job to advertise for ESPN.

sheesh ....

the game is in Hartford. there are lots of tickets available. why not go see the game in person and actually support the team ?!?!?

74-47 hardly seems like the time to push the panic button Geno.Especially with back up players playing quite a few minutes.

I've seen all of virtually every game this season.

Can someone explain to me what is going on with the group of players that finish the blowout games? In almost every game they play they fail to score more than a few points (excepting Lorin Dixon), and they make so many turnovers you'd think they don't practice together. Geno can't put them in even with a 20 point lead with 7 minutes to play because of what might happen.

And these players were recruited to play at one of the most successful programs in the country, right? Why don't they play better? Why are some of them even on the team? Are they not given coaches' attention at practice? I just don't get it.

And often, it seems like Geno doesn't even bother coaching them in the game-just get them out there to screw around and run out the clock. Their play is usually embarrassing. I was pleasantly surprised that he called a timeout last night to offer them some coaching. Would more of that attention help?

So, what is going on?

Sorry to rant.

TOO BAD THE GOVERNOR DID NOT DO SOMETHING SOONER SO THE FANS COULD HAVE SEEN BOTH GAMES.
I WOULD RATHER WATCH THE GAMES AT HOME INSTEAD OF PAYING OUT FOR TICKETS, PARKING, AND THE OUTRAGEOUS PRICES FOR FOOD AND DRINK.

I CAN ALSO BE MORE COMFORTABLE AND DO NOT HAVE TO FIGHT TRAFFIC. I REFUSE TO PAY FOR A SPORT PACKAGE TO WATCH A GAME. I'LL LISTEN TO IT ON RADIO FIRST.
