Every team needs a theme, and this year the UConn women embraced one compelling enough to fire the furnace through the long winter. Read more

Great win, more or less!

Maybe less?

I was delighted to see that Ketia Swanier was named "player of the game."

But has anyone else noticed what a lousy shooter Renee Montgomery has become during the NCAA series?

Kinda worriesome, I'd say.

Also, where, really, was the great Maya during this game?

Nevertheless, it was a gratifying win.

But I'm truly hoping that Renee and Maya can recover their skill.

If they can't, I'm betting on Ketia to pick them up, as she did in this less than well-played game.

Congratulations, Ketia!

Geno earned his pay tonight. He was out coached in the 1st half only to out smart a very clever CVS to win the game. Swanier was terrific and Houston played well. Great team victory. Hats off to Rutgers, they were ripped off by the NCAA and should have been playing Tenn tonight. They would have won.

There was anguish on both coaches’ faces throughout the game. You may have been watching the two best teams in America. I know this is a huge rivalry, but you have to give credit to Rutgers for a gutty performance.

Vivian Stringer has continually shown class by bringing her team back out in the final regular season game with UConn after her discouraged players headed to the locker room.

Vivian Stringer had one of her players write three apologies after she kicked a soft drink that spattered Bob Picozzi and others.

Vivian is a class act. She was wronged by the NCAA. They have a very good team.

Congratulations to the Huskies who have worked hard to find their destiny. The road is never easy. Geno has mold a team that will continue to move forward. They have excelled in spite of serious injuries. Every team is gunning for UConn, but they have maintained their focus.

Two more steps. Neither will be easy, but both will be rewarding.

Congratualtions!

I almost had a stroke watching this game!! As frightening as the first half was, UCONN showed their depth, nerve, spirit and guts (esp. in the face of Maya having an off night) bu coming back fighting in the second half. Awesome, just awesome!!

Here in suburban Memphis, I could hardly watch yet could hardly stay away. I had two heart attacks but refused to budge. UConn should win the championship, but they are champions, irrespective. This team is awesome. Each player should feel proud to be a part of this program and to compete at such a high level. The mighty Rutgers, with all of its seniors and returners from last year's runner up championship, had to slow it down. They knew that they did not have talent equal to UConn. Thankfully, UConn had the coaching to make the necessary adjustments. Just proud of the players.

Talk about a gut check! All hail the Huskies for having the intestinal fortitude to claw, scratch, spit, and kick their way back into an ugly trademark Rutgers defensive game and to prevail. Out here in Oregon, the only Huskies people hear about hail from U Washington, so I sit alone as a one-man rooting section at home.(My wife is not a sports fan!)

I had the feeling UConn would pull it out in the final reel, even when they were down by 14 and couldn't buy a basket. But, it sure wasn't pretty, or easy. Kahli McLaren deserves major credit, as does Ketia Swanier, but it was as a group, showing class and courage, to win this one. Maya Moore's 3 late was as welcome a basket as I've seem since Swanier's gallop at DePaul (which I only "heard,"because UConn isn't on TV out here much!)

No matter what Stanford throws at the Huskies, they couldn't be tougher than Rutgers' execution of their awful, stifling defense...UConn will find seams in Stanford's efforts whereas tonight they found cement-like walls...yet, they overcame!

I thought I noted a tear in Geno's eyes during the Lobo interview after the game....it's OK, tears of pride and of joy are most welcome! GO HUSKIES!

Great game! I was nervous ever since I saw the seedings. The one comment that the ESPN crew made all evening was the UConn should have played Texas A&M. That just goes to show you that Pat still paves the way. Anyway, let's enjoy this victory.

Rutgers played a good game too but I just loved the look of disgust on C Viv's face when UConn came back and then when they went ahead. But true to what other people wrote they would have beaten Tennessee!! Another thought was that the NCAA didn't want 2 Big East teams in the Final Four???

Way to go UConn & Geno! Great coaching!!!

Very scary! But all's well that ends well. And, ex-nutmeggar, Moore IS great. She's just a freshman in a HUGE game. Give her a break.

This should have been a final four game! Rutgers came to play with a great defense, a little rough at times, but in basketball you take what the refs give you. That's the game. I agree with this comment:

"Hats off to Rutgers, they were ripped off by the NCAA and should have been playing Tenn tonight. They would have won."

Another side of Uconn, their A game stifled by a great Rutger's defense, spread the wealth around, especially with the best 2 guard tandem in the country and bingo, never say die. I can't wait untill they hit all cylinders against Stanford---too slow, awkward and if Wiggins is'nt on--syanora baby----No team can match the overall talent and heart of the first seven on this team--go Huskies, chew on the Cardinal then spit it out to the Wrong coast!
