To Anonymous,
While a 15 year old cannot legally give consent, she could have kept her legs crossed. He didn't physically rape these girls, it was a statutory rape.
Give me a freaking break. We are talking about 15 year old girls with severe emotional problems. He was an adult in a position of power over them.

He probably got the job because of his connections with UCONN.He definitely wasn't the brightest "star" in the sky. There are definitely a plethora of people who would give thier right arm for a job like this.

I don't understand the system. Are we trying to rehabilitate people or are we trying to incarcerate people. Mr. Hayward has no remorse for his crimes. None. He doesn't realize what he did was wrong. He needs rehabilitation as well as incarceration. He needs to admit what he did was wrong, and from knowing him on a day to day to basis, that's going to be a larger task than he has ever undertaken. Hopefully he will also learn how to be truthful and what it means to have actual integrity with other human beings.

While what he did to those girls was clearly unacceptable, we shouldn't forget that they voluntarily had sex with the creep, so they should share at least part of the blame. I'm sorry, but a 15 year old girl should know better!
Whoa wait a minute ... even if they consented, they are troubled juveniles first and foremost. Even a 15 year old girl without troubles can be manipulated into saying yes. So saying that she or they should've known better is just plain wrong. He was the adult, he is the one who should know better.

Hayword should have been held to a higher standard because of his position of responsibility that came with the job. The community expects that those who are entrusted with the responsibility of helping their children will not violate and victimize them. Hayword violated and victimized the entire community. People who work with children should be punished according a set consistent guideline; not adjusted by various factors by different judges. Nobody cares what his or anyone else's past history was. They should know up front when they take the job what to expect if they decide to make a poor choice.

Pathetic- a 15 year old girl confined to a psychiatric unit. He did rape those girls. He was a paid state employee that was supposed to know right from wrong and he took advantage of not only MINORS, but mentally ill MINORS.
Regardless- maybe while he's in jail someone will suggest that HE keep his legs together.

not all people who go there have problems i was placed there because DCF had no where else to put me and he was one of my councilors. u have to look at it from a perspective of someone who has actualy been there. those girls are some of the most sneeky coniving little things u'll ever meet. he could have just as easily been minipulated too. he should have known better yes but if u take out the hospital situation he is doing what a lot of older men do there not all in jail.
