Butler a 3 or a 5 seed? I think with a loss like this on the resume, a 6 or 7 would be a gift. Mid-majors have to be nearly perfect to get a 3 seed, especially this year: they'll be cracking down on mids after last year's mid major free for all in the tourney.

This might sound very pompous and arrogant given we only lost 2 games so far, but I'm starting to get concernedw witht the way we are playing. I know that we don't want to peak in mid-January, but lately we have been winning without playing to our full potential and I feel we might have taken a step backwards since Alaska. I hope and think we will be much better in mid-February and everything will be fine come March. However, there is a BIG, BIG difference between a #3 and #5 seed.

No one realizes how tough the Horizon League is. They are the best conference in college basketball. Cleveland State will be a final four contender. Butler is still a lock for the NCAA title game.

I love it... all the scenarios you're throwing around, like, "If we run the table, we could still get a 5 seed." What the hell? You think they just give 5 seeds away to mid majors who don't even win their own conference? Lots of conference basketball left, and it's pretty clear that this will not be Butler's last loss of the season. I'd say an at large bid and a berth in an 8/9 game would be more likely, assuming there is no monumental collapse in the coming weeks.

I hope this can put an end to some of the Butler/IU comparisons. Clearly the Bulldogs are a top mid major, but IU is 15-1 and 4-0 in the Big Ten with 3 conference road wins. Nothing Butler has done will come close to impressing IU or its fans - these teams aren't even comparable. IU has 14 games left, and even if they lose half of them they'll still finish the year 22-8 and earn a 5 seed or better, conference tournament not withstanding.

And that's because they play in a power conference against a tougher schedule.

By the way, I hope no Butler fans try to feed me crap about strength of schedule. Everyone with half a brain knows that at the beginning of the year, mid majors, who are constantly scheduled by power conference teams, will have higher SOS, but then by the end of the conference season, it swings the other way with power conference teams playing other power conference teams two, sometimes three times a week.

They didnt bring their shot on the road tonight. When they dont bring their shot they lose. They are a heavy 3pt relying team. You know the slogan....you live by the 3......you....know the rest. And the rest is what happened to them tonight. Missing a front end of a one and one though is rediculous. You are too good of a player to do that in your senior season. Cleveland St. was 7-5 entering Horizon league play and now have a 2 game lead in conference. That tells me the conference is a joke.
The difference in IU and BU tonight........IU's moxy showed up in the last two minutes and Butler folded. The dawgs will be fine in the long run. But they are not IU. Indiana University is the best team in this state and its not really even very close.
I'm sorry you can't appreciate how well Purdue is doing for how incredibly young they are. Or are you just dreading what the next few years hold? HAIL PURDUE and GO DAWGS!

Horizon League, Big 11, who cares? Both crappy conferences, both boring, ugly basketball. I'm always so amazed that people in the "Cradle of Basketball" put up with the mush that is big 11 play. Come on people, demand better of a team and conference, you all can be coaches, that's how much every Hoosier knows about bball, teach them and they will win championships.

I still think Butler is the best team in the state. IU's moxy?!?! Minnesota could barely hit the backboard and they still almost won. IU will have to play better and I'm sure they will. My bets are still on Butler to make it further into the tourney.

IU has heart....what they need is stickum (sp??) for their damn hands to hold onto the ball. Very ugly game but yet they did win.

Maybe it's the fact that every time an IU basketball article comes out, we have to read comments from Butler fans trying to stake their claim as one of the elite teams in college basketball. And maybe that bothers IU fans because IU is one of the most storied programs in the history of the game, and Butler is, well, Butler: a mid-major with an attitude problem, not unlike Phillip Rivers.

So yeah, if after all of that I'm a Butler hater, I think you can see how that is justified.
