I know some Purdue fans wanted to spend big bucks for a name coach. The truth is the University doesn't have the resources to do so (Ohio State's football revenue alone is more than Purdue's entire athletic budget). Hope is the kind of guy who makes sense: a Purdue background, proven good recruiter, who's proven he can be a winner as a head coach. That's the model Purdue followed to get Tiller, and that IU used in hiring Hoeppner. And this kind of managed transition worked well with Matt Painter. Given that Purdue isn't going to lure Les Miles from LSU or Tony Dungy from the Colts this is a good and sensible move.

A great move, poorly handled, though. I'm glad Coach Tiller will be back next year to finish (?) a terrific career, but am also glad that the controversy of the past several days is over. Coach Hope appears to be just the right person, especially with his credentials as a recruiter, to carry the program to a higher level.

Purdue Wars Episode 4: A New Hope?

I don't know enough to say it is a good or bad hire and only time will tell. I just hope we did not hire him just because he has a mustache.

Congrats to Hope. Good luck and Boiler up. Here's to taking us to the Rose Bowl a few more times.

As far as Tiller, I am not sure how heart felt his comments are, but congrats to him on everything he did and I wish him well in retirement.

Spending a season as an assistant will give Hope a chance to become familiar with the intracacies of Purdue's late-season swoon.

Sweet! Well done Purdue. Now let's get ready for the Oregon Ducks in '08 and Tiller's second trip to Pasadena. Boiler Up!

Too bad Purdue fans won't be able to watch all of the games because of the Big Ten Network.

Was it poorly handled? Or just reported on with a spin towards controversy?

Whew, and I thought they canned me becaused I sucked. Just goes to show you Purdue screws over all coaches.

Anyway, I'm ashamed to be a Purdue alum right now. It was under Tillers reign that I had the opportunity to go out to Pasadena and see Purdue in the Rose Bowl...the only time they have made it im my lifetime!

Tiller put Purdue back on the map as a tier 2 team. Before he was there we weren't even beating the cupcakes. So much for our Motor City Bowl future!:(

They are not a big time football program that a top notch coach would consider. Let's be realistic about who they could get.

Joe Tiller was the best chance for Purdue ever to see a Rose Bowl berth. Purdue will never play for a national championship. Honestly, purdue will go back to its losing ways, and be another Indiana or Northwestern in the Big Ten ... too bad. I liked the ND v. Purdue rivalry under Joe Tiller and co.

If Les Miles was our coach there is no guarentee we would win a national title or go to the Rose Bowl. Some of you need to take some Prozac or something and try to not think the sky is falling...Hope might turn into a great hirer who has more charisma and personality than Tiller.

Sorry to see Tiller go after all he's done for this program. He deserves the best for putting Purdue football back on the map and making Saturday's fun for all us fans again. Can't think of a better guy than Danny Hope to bring in and take over though. Good hard-nosed & enthusiastic coach who can recruit with the best of them! He's even got a mustache!!! True Boilermaker.
The future of Purdue Basketball & Football is looking veeery bright.
BOILER UP!
