It won't be Zak Willis. Local reports here say he won't be WC's coach and will remain at Newberry.
Good luck to y'all finding the right guy.

Zack Willis was interviewed three times with the last being this past Wednesday. After that interview, he withdrew his name from consideration. Western seems to be having tremendous problems in trying to hire a coach with outstanding credentials but not will to fork out the bucks to pay for expectations.

Regionals are the final 16 teams (4 teams in one regionl to go to the final 4). Those are never close to be sold out. WHO IS UNINFORMED? You're on a football thread banging the drum against women's athletics. What's your point?

We need a Zack Willis type coach who CAN turn a program around, and we should have jumped on it. Whether it's the bucks or the University leadership - there is a BIG problem if you can't hire a coach this time of year in 40 days. Look at all the daily hiring announcements from schools that have been surprised by departing coaches. Holy crap Batman - as one who loves the Cats, but being separated from the institution, I'm beginning to believe this stuff about Bardo being the BIG problem here.

Bet you a hundred bucks Bardo throws a football like a girl. He's too busy trying to improve the "Fine Arts" of the university so he and his wife can go drink wine and eat cheese before the opera. He'd just as soon let us play football against Carson-Newman, Catawba, Mars Hill and Davidson.

Where do we go from here? It is fun to throw around coaches' names, but who are we really going to target in the coming days? weeks? Who has our best interest at heart?

Remember Bob Waters, Coaching in an iron lung and still winning. Remember Dean B. kicking 55 yard field goals. Remember beating the "boone goons" an era gone past. Pick someone with that will play to win over playing not to lose like the Panthers. Hoover is numero uno/////He has heart!!!!!!!!

Here's what was said on his website: No Interest in Western Carolina!!!!!
---------- Tyler Norris Goode via the Ashville Citizen wrote a very misleading and inaccurate article concerning the Head Football coaching job at WCU. I was portrayed as having an interest, and even applying for the spot: None of that is true! I have never inquired, applied, called, or solicited support for such a position. I tried to be available to the paper to comment on the opening, and had my words completely twisted to fit another headline. The headline was inaccurate as well. The more disturbing part of this saga is that the author of the incorrect article is not interested in correcting it. Be careful what you read in Ashville......and be careful what is reprinted in the Greenville, SC paper as well. I never sought the position and have never been offered the position. For the record, I would not accept the position under any circumstances. I am a Furman man and am a volunteer at Pickens High School in Pickens, SC. However, I can be bought, but not WCU. I do wish them well. They have a neat campus, good school, tough conference, and a lot to offer student athletes and coaches. Go Catamounts! The Southern Conference needs you to make the right choice in Head Coach. Good luck!
Yup, can't spell Asheville right. How sad. Now awaiting "what do you expect from a Furman man?" comments in 5...4...3...

Yes, Coach Willis has a record. A WINNING record. He is known for his skill in turning around dead or basically nonexistant football programs. I would closely check myself before calling him a liar. Perhaps, I note a tone of bitterness in your comments. Were you perhaps afronted when his no account Newberry Indians royally whooped your behinds off the field. Sounds likely, very likely. Coach Willis is a man of integrity and you sir are a small man spewing slander and venom in an anynonmous setting. You are also poorly informed. Politics would be the operative word. Coach Willis has earned every opportunity he has gotten unlike others who have friends in high places. Isn't that so Western Carolina? The truth can befreeing. Well, don't worry, some of us know the truth and have no intention of forgetting. Victory awaits for Coach Willis and vindication for these incidious charges.

Yes, Coach Willis has a record. A WINNING record. He has ressurrected two left for dead football programs and produced winning teams.Ifind it appalling to accusse Coach Willis of lying. Just what is it that motivates you to make such slanderous remarks. You ignorant fool. Does politics evade your simple mind. Coach Willis is a self made man. Unlike others who utilize friends in high places to secure positions for them. Sound familiar Western Carolina. Coach Willis will far exceed the expectations of these such petty people.
