I can agree with Our Graybeard Terps Fan ... I would think this team would be well served with Vasquez coming off bench I have Boom and Gregory off first though.......

I think all of the student athletes should go to class more!

WHOA NELLY..I don't care if they graduate I want another NCAA Championship...the crazy Vasquez is NOT a Juan Dixon, Drew Nicholas, or Steve Blake and will never approach their skill set and court smarts

MDR: I'd love to see how eloquent your own post-game comments would be when you're still learning the language and are a 20-year-old kid. So he said something stupid--it's not like he's the President of the United States or something. Cut him some slack.

And I don't like the John Gilchrist comparisons. I'm thinking more "Greivis Caner-Vasquez." To wit:

--Huge fan favorite as a freshman coming off the bench, followed by 3 years of erratic play.

--Totally out of control on the court.

--Never met a shot he didn't like.

Can a strip-club fight be far behind?

For those of you that follow soccer, if Vazquez had decided to stick to the game of most of his countrymen, he'd adamantly believe he should wear the #10 shirt and be the attacking midfielder...just like he likes to think of himself as a point guard. The kid wants the limelight, and you can tell he's in Gary's ear. The most disappointing thing about this loss was that it was the first time Hayes has been back at the point since last yr, and it would have been nice to get a W to reinforce the importance of Hayes to this team. The point guard doesn't need to create his own shot...his job is to create for others. For those that haven't recognized Hayes' game yet, just watch him feed the post over the next few games. He puts the ball in a players hands that puts them in a position to score. It doesn't make the highlight reel, but it does start the offense. Now if Gist would quit playing for the scouts and get inside where he can abuse some people...

I can't believe all this crap I am reading from you dusch bags! MDR is a friggin moron! "An unfunded year back in the slums of Caracus"? And John AOL ... "Send him back to wallow in his own dung"? How self righteous you are! This is a 19 year old kid trying to make a decent life for himself. What college team did you guys star on??? What was your scoring average??? What was your assist to turnover ratio. And the peach basket nailed to the garage in your driveway doesn't count! I wanna see you guys put on a basketball uniform (if your fat asses will fit in one) and go on an ACC court and do better. And if you can't do better, then shut you f***in redneck racist pie holes!!!!

Hey Bo Didley, how about hypering down the rhetoric? In an earlier post I called out MDR and John AOL for their ethnic slurs, and let it go at that. No need to escalate things by hurling ethnic slurs back their way--eg., "f***in redneck racist pie holes!!!!"

Vasquez is going to do just fine. He's anxious to learn the game, willing to listen, and self-critical when he realizes he's made a mistake. Any resemblance to John Gilchrist of blessed Terp memory is purely coincidental.

Ah, the last bastion of the failed argument; the claim of a racist slur by another. It doesn't work in the real world, particularly when there's no validity to the claim.

Just shows you how wrong Bo and Graybeard are.

The real world point is Venezuela, the government that is, has confessed a deep hatred for the US and has assisted in covert activities to undermine both our government and economy. Unfortunately, Vasquez takes on the personality of his president and if that continues and he continues to play and speak recklessly and in some way seriously affects the image of the University of Maryland...he will be banned to his native third world country. There are UGLY AMERICANS but Vasquez can make the point that there are UGLY Venezuelans and we all know that there are UGLY Southern Marylanders, ala BO Dwiddly above.

WOW. Venezuelan politics? Who cares? This was a BC vs. UMD basketball game right? Uh...anyway.

First of all, where did the crowd go? Two minutes left and we are within 10 and the crowd leaves? WTF!!! Give me your ticket, I'll fly down from Boston just to watch the game and I can gaurantee to hear the final buzzer. That's extremely weak. Actaully, get rid of those ridiculous hypnotic spinners behind the backboard. Who are we Wake Forest? Soon we'll be chanting "Whos the man...Shane Battier". Fair weather bleeps.

Now, I'm no fan of Greivis. I've am pained to have to root for this guy. However, he does play hard and has a ton of potential. The guy is 6'6 and can guard almost anyone on the court. I think he's got a great shot that he's struggling with right now since even his FTs aren't automatic. Something isn't right. As far as his emotion goes, I'm tired of it. He does love the spotlight and looks for attention, but until he starts flopping on D like he does after contact on the way to the basket, I'm still pulling for him.

Tough loss for sure. But I gotta say I liked seeing Dino hit that jump shot from the top of the key, Tucker draining threes with ease, and I thought Milbourne looked pretty good. A little out of control, and I wish he would look at the ball when he tries to catch it, but he was aggressive (explosive at times) while looking to score. We need someone to step up and I dont care who it is.

I didn't know Tucker was a shooter! This guy needs to get some minutes.

Everyone seems to love Boom and who can blame them, he seems like a great guy. But if he drops one more pass that hits him in the hands, Gary should swing by the football equipment office and snag a pair of receivers gloves. Maybe a butterfly net or something cause he's got some stones baby.

Two man game...Hayes to Gist to Hayes to Gist. A la Dixon, Baxter, Blake.

Gonna be an arduous year folks. I hope you really like your Terps basketball or else we may just lose ya. If we do...good riddance...weed out the dead wood, there was plenty of it there on Sunday night.

yeah I wss there there is no excuse for people leaving like they did
the guys left on the court did a great job and almost won..I truly believe they would have won if they didn't have the Vasquez distraction..

First, I think that T was a horrible call. To me, it looked like he hit the post out of frustration more than to show up the ref. The ref needs to swallow his whistle there and tell the 19 year old Vasquez to tone it down if he wants to stay in the game. Maybe he already did that, but I didn't see it.
Second, the Terps need Vasquez on the court to win games. Think they should adjust a bit though and start a three guard lineup with Hayes, Tucker, Vasquez, Gist and Dupree. Keep bringing Boom off the bench and sit Milbourne so he can stop turning the ball over on the first possession of every game. Tucker has a nice shot which will probably open up more shots for Hayes. Milbourne is extremely athletic, but seems to be pressing too much. He may settle down coming off the bench after watching the game unfold for a couple minutes.
Just my two cents...

"Ah, the last bastion of the failed argument; the claim of a racist slur by another. It doesn't work in the real world, particularly when there's no validity to the claim." MDR

Where's the argument in: "Perhaps an unfunded year back in the slums of Caracas would provide the motivation for an attitude correction. Maybe two years........"? You're implying the kid is a ghetto rat without knowing Jack Schnitt about his background.

JohnAOL--"Vasquez takes on the personality of his president"! This is silly, no worse than silly. It's crude stereotypying. All you can say with reasonable certainty is that Vasquez is a sophmore guard who needs to dial back his on-court sophmoric behavior. I think Vas will do fine; you don't. An honest difference of opinion. Let's keep it at that.

Loop is dead on.

Tomorrow night is the night. Leon [ Gibbon's ] and the little boys from Ohio U come to play Gary's cupcake game . After losing Sun. night to BC, there is NO way the Terp's can lose to Ohio. Gary might play 4 guys when the game gets out of hand. You want to see some contact watch Leon and Gary's man trying to cover him. Banging will be the theme of the night.

I know reporters want to avoid calling out referees (I also know that MD fans want to blame the refs every chance they get), but at some point a reporter is not doing there job when they are not reporting what objectively has occurred. And objectively what happened against Boston College is that we got jobbed. The refs don't like Vasquez. They didn't like it when he hugged the ref b/c he was showing them up so they got rid of him. Plain and simple. Objectively, a technical is a suspicious call when the player doesn't say a word to the official or even look at the official. Objectively, when a guard fouls out of a game with eleven minutes in the game, something suspicious is occurring. Objectively, when a BC guard takes three steps to the basket with the ball stuck to his hip, he traveled. Obejctively when a Boston College player comes down with a rebound and falls down while a MD players is trying to get a jump ball, he traveled.

All that being said, the fans were why we lost the game. Fans don't need to question the direction of the program, they need to question themselves. We scored ten points in the final minute of the game. In the process we sent them to the line several times. If they just missed one more free throw we would have tied the game. The great home court advantage we are supposed to have is the vertical wall of fans behind the basket. The only problem being there were no fans there! So BC casually went to the line and knocked down the majority of their free throws with no problem b/c our fans ran away.

I'm not worried about the progres of our program. I'm worried about the progress of our fans.

Hey John AOL, I am not the one ashamed to post where I am from (where is AOL exactly?) while I am ripping a 19-20 year old college kid and comparing him to a lunatic dictator and blathering about world politics on a sports page thread! Yeah, I am from Southern Maryland, but like all of your tirades here, that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic of the thread. So shut your rascist pie hole!

Alonzo...I totally agree, sort of... I've been questioning the direction of our fans for 5 or 6 years now. BC would have had a hard time making the last few with the crowd going nuts and their balls shrinking because the lead dwindled. The team definitely could have used some help.

I thought our fans used to be the ones starting trends, not the sheep following them? Our students might as well come up with a Cheer Sheet like dook and jump up and down for the whole game while chanting things that make sense to about 12 people. Our fans, the ones that cheer (there are a lot of older folk just kinda sitting there), almost seem to be going wine and cheese. Not in the Virginia sense, but more in the whine and cheesy sense. People, if we are losing, KEEP FREAKIN' CHEERING!!! And give the refs as much shyte as you want, just don't be louder in response to a bad call than you are for anything else that happens.

About the AOL thing, I don't know how th locater works because I'm defnintely not in Mount Laurel, NJ. A little farther North. Can I just say that I hate the Red Sox and Patriots now more than ever. ARGGGHHH

This game against OHIO aint going well...
