"Even when I get 20 turnovers, they need me out there."
- Vasquez

Uh, no, Greivis. The Terps don't need you, your mouth, your ego, your turnovers, or your insaitable desire to be the center of the Terp basketball universe. Remember, at the end of the game, you subtract your turnovers, fouls, and stupid technicals from your point total. This makes your contribution to the Terps, at best, unfortunate.

Perhaps an unfunded year back in the slums of Caracas would provide the motivation for an attitude correction. Maybe two years........

That was way over the top MDR. The team was flat without him, until the last 2 minutes, then it was too late.

It was a great game, except for that silly T. I still find it hard to see where that is a T.

Gary has certainly mellowed over the years. I can remember the time when someone like Vasquez would be sitting the bench. The Terps are much better off without this type of showboat. Passion is one thing; stupidity is another.

God we can't catch a break. Do all the sports teams from this area have to be so hard to watch?

MDR- Get a clue. Vasquez is our most talented player. Sometimes his emotion gets the best of him. And you say "take away his turnovers well he had one turnover and six assists in 29 minutes so shouldn't that be "take away his turnover". Also, he was doing a heck of a job containing Tyrese Rice, one of the top scorers in the conference. Rice had eight points, despite the whole BC offense going through him, when he fouled out. The conference seems to be trying to reduce emotion both from coaches and players this year. When a player receives a third and fourth foul within a minute and knows he's out until the under four TO, then a natural reaction is frustration. Hopefully Vasquez will learn he's a target of ACC officials and he can tone down somewhat. However, I never want him to lose his passion.

G. vasquez = J. Gilchrist

at least Gary finally put him in his place on the wing and has put the ball back in the hands of the only point guard on the team

Vasquez is terrible and needs to be benched. He can't shoot and is a turnover machine. 1-6 from three point land. He's shooting something like 20% from 3 point range this year. If he attempts another jump shot Gary should bench him. He's the most overrated player in MD history.

The other terrible thing about Vasquez is that John Lucas' son didn't come to MD because of the fact that MD already had two point guards, on being Vasquez. Great!!!

"Vasquez is our most talented player" - Rob

Been snacking on the ergot tainted popcorn again? Talent is driven by skills, knowledge, and ability, not omnipresent ego! "Doink" Vasquez is nothing more than an off-key rim shot rebounding into the arms of the opposition. He reminds me of Wiley Coyote; a lot of movement but little in the way of results. This is particularly true when you take the time to look at his overall game, not just his highlights. Sad, so sad.........

The one thing that was very clear from that game is just how horrible Milbourne is. He really is just miserable. I wish they'd put the turnovers in the stats, b/c he had a whole bunch. He kept turning the ball over, and he had the worst shooting percentage taking a lot of wild shots. He plays completely out of control and so does Vasquez. I don't know what Gary sees in him, but he needs to stick Milbourne on the bench ASAP.

MDR is right on. We don't need the crazed Vasquez on this team. There is great talent. Move Hayes (Blake) to point, play Tucker. You have great guys like Gist and Boom playing great doing what is right and doing it with dignity. Vasquez is not a good representative of the Univeristy of Maryland (remember our guys of national glory..Dixon, Blake, Mouton, Baxter, Taj, Wilcox..did they act like this moron no send him back to the country that hates us and let him wallow in his own dung!)

what are u idiots talkin about?..."bench Vasquez?" Then who runs the point?...Hayes?...he cant penetrate & he is a set shooter, he needs someone to get the ball to him! He cant create his own shot! But i admit, Vasquez made a bone head play but like someone said, if your from this area u should be accustomed to it!

Gary Williams does not seem to get it. He sees Vasquez in more settings than we do..however his and this team's stage is national and supposed to represent a great University. To publicly support Vasquez is fine, but Gary if you don't want to put yourself on a path out the door ( there are a number of blue blood supporters who are getting anzy over the overall situation) you better tame your pet!

I see some many Maryland/DC guys playing well. We need to keep some of our talent home. Please, let's look to D.C. and Baltimore and keep some of those guys..

I agree Vasquez needs to stop shooting from outside so much. 1-6 on 3 pointers is not acceptable.
But who will replace him besides Tucker?
I also look at the box score and see 25 fouls on MD, and 13 on BC. Doesn't seem right, and neither does a T for slapping the basket support.

#17 Dec 10, 2007
Anthony, I am not talking about benching Vasquez I am talking about suggesting that he leave the team and head back home. Look at how Blake started he was a set shooter and not a penetrator. At the end of the year if not sooner, you will see Hayes as the permanent point guard on this team.

I for one was glad to see somebody playing with heart and emoton. From what I saw of the game you're going to have a very difficult time beating anybody who goes to the foul line 25 more times then you do,the game was poorly officiated and I don't think slapping the basket support out of frustration deserves a technical.Officiating in general in every sport seems to have gotten much worse and the issue is never addressed on any level.I gaurantee you that Coach K gets those calls, watch any Duke game.

MDR and John, what's with the nativist slurs? For all of Vasquez's recent failings, he brings a lot of energy to this team, and he is willing to learn and listen, unlike John Gilchrist and a few other prima donnas of recent MD vintage. That technical last night was silly on the part of the ref--for hugging the stanchion?! Gimme a break.
Vasquez, however, might be more effective coming off the bench, providing that instantaneous lift that good sixth men are often known for. Tucker is starting to impress.

I think a lot of people are being too hard on Vazquez. He is very talented and we needed him in the game in order to win. He does make some boneheaded plays sometimes but he, as the rest of the team, is still learning. It may be a tough year this year as they are so young, team looking good for future

All of us MD fans ought to realize, these guys are young-very young! Work has to be done but it is fixable. Just keep Gist inside alittle more and not shooting 3's like Garrison used to do.
