I like when Kabongo gets into it and gets excited when he gets a dunk like he did the other night. I dont mind it at all. I agree that it was pathetic to watch us get pounded down low when he have the taller and bigger team. Chili and Troy stood around and would get boxed out by players they should have dominated.First on the Gordo comments, given his limited athleticism, he really did play fairly well the last few games of the season. Wish he would have had a better career, but I think he competed at D1. Having so many players around him with a low basketball IQ, has limited him though.
Now on the game last night, its embarrasing to see the aggies trying to run offensive sets. They simply cant, and for whtever reason, everyone was reluctant to shoot. On one play, Gillenwater was quadruple teamed down low, and he correctly found a wide open aggie at the top of the key, who completely passed up the shot. Our offensive play calling consisted of the aggies spreading the floor, and Kabongo going one on one from the top of the key.
Kabongo is a nice player, and for stretches, he was the only one that looked like he knew the game, and wanted to win. He'll be a good one, if he can quit the attitude a little bit. I hope somebody will pull him aside and tell him to get grounded. Its annoying to see him celebrate and make funny faces and body language after every basket he makes.
Now,where do the Aggies go from here? Menzies can no longer use the "wait til march" motto next year if the aggies get off to a slow start. Next year will define Menzies, and let us know the state of our basketball program. I believe it will be his first full senior class, playing with all of his players, under his system. The aggies still need to get tough inside, and find a way to replace Gordo's outside shooting. I'm not super optimistic for next year. Minus Gordo, the roster will look almost the same, as will the coaching. I hope one of the guys gaining eligibility is a stud, but given what I've seen from Menzies recruits, I doubt it. The scary thing is that after next year, Troy, Big Wen, Laroche, and Rahman will all be gone. Can anybody envision what our team will be like with only the rest of the players on the court?
I agree that next year will define Menzies as long as we can stay healthy. Having Wendell back will be HUGE! He has always played with a lot of heart and would do all the dirty work even though he is undersized for a forward. Having Rahman back as well would be nice.
I can't believe I am saying this but I missed Jahmar Young's cockiness yesterday. He had the mindset that we could win no matter what and no matter who we played and we needed that yesterday. No one other than Kabongo thought they could win yesterday.
