The most difficult obstacle to overcome to achieving our dreams is our own inability to believe in ourselves. Give your coach a chance to convince the players of that and New Mexico can become a great team, too.

From a BSU fan, it all starts with mentality. It sounds like your new coach is a good one. It takes awhile to get rid of "We're going to lose" to "We might just have a chance" and as your program grows it changes to "We think we can win" and "We know we can win". Give this Walker guy a chance. Hal Mumme was a joke at Kentucky and at NMSU. Walker should walk onto the practice field Monday and say if you don't think you can win get off the field. Akey basically did that up at Idaho and they are starting to win games that they couldn't before. It all starts with attitude. Best of luck against New Mexico! It's a starting point to a brighter future!
Unfortunately NMSU has such a long history of being a "loser" program that it will probably take more time than Coach Walker will be given. And as other posters have pointed out, any outstanding local talent is recruited away to better programs.
I personally would love to see the days return from the early to late 80's where Aggie Stadiums was full with students proud of their school and fans that came to watch not necessarily a great program but one that you could count on going 6-4, 5-5 and usually two of those wins came against UTEP and UNM.

On the bright side, we are one less football loss closer to basketball season.

Okay let see... Lets give the football program 4.1 million dollars, raise tution to unheard of levels, don't tell anyone that the dorms are filled to capacity (but we don't have any money!), and for giggles lets put a Barnes and Noble on one of the best parking lots on campus.
Fire the coach, disband the team, fill the stadium with water and race jet ski's, lower the tuition to acceptable levels, and quit trying to money-grab from the people that keep you in business.
NMSU is broken.

Where's Pervis Atkins, Bob Gaiters, and Charlie Johnson when you need them? What's happened over the years at NMSU that's gone from those glory years to where the program is now? Why can't it get back to that level?

Walker and Mike Locksley took these jobs simply because they stand to make money when they get fired.
The buyout clause for Mike Locksley is $3 million,
Walker's may as well be $3 billion, NMSU cannot afford to buy him out. Both coaches were aware of this when they took the jobs. Win or Lose they get paid, and college football fans in New Mexico get screwed.

You must be thinking about the UNM Lobos, because that will never happen with the NMSU
Aggies.

"I think our football team still believes that we're gonna lose."

and that ladies and gentleman, is why DWayne Walker, previously a defensive coordinator with UCLA who ranked last in (you guessed it) defense in the PAC-10 was brought to NMSU. He is a buddy of McKinley Boston. Go figure.

Q: What does every loyal Aggie Fan ask at the start of each NMSU football season?

A: When does basketball season begin?

Yep it was in the cards alright - gee that sounds familiar
it has been in the cards for 50 years that the Aggies
might win but probably will lose.

Dwayne Walker and his dumping of Defensive duties to an
Assistant Coach is a huge lack of leadership - of course
good old Dwayne can say I was not the Defensive Coach
when that happened - right?

Oh well here comes UNM - 0-5 - I guess we will see how
we can loose on Saturday with coaching like this, a
injured starting Qback with little to no back-up and
a non existant defense then I guess we can say that
we might win but probably will lose.

Apathy-maybe THAT should be the NMSU mascot.Because it's everywhere on campus,in the community, and in the local media.During my years there as a student, you could count on your fingers how many students knew what conference NMSU was in,and even fewer could name all the members(it wasn't UTEP or UNM) After what I saw and heard Saturday,"New Mexico State Apathies" says it all!!!

New Mexico has nothing to offer for todays players, out state players watch MTV<etc. they see glamour at south beach,Los angeles, etc. new mexico is not a mecca for good athletes or beautiful women, never has been, regardless of who coaches,in plain english drop football in the entire state.
Yet, somehow, today's players DO see Boise Idaho as a Mecca? You're not very bright, are you?

Of course, everyone knew that the Aggies would lose a big one at home against Boise St. I didn't waste my time or a dollar to go to Aggie Memorial, to watch a blow out. I'd rather spend a good weekend doing other things. Our football team is worthless, and it's not getting any better than from the Mumme era! But at the same time, you can't blame Walker for the team he inherited. It's a tough job to come to NMSU and trying to win.

I have heard a rumor that Boise State allowed some of the band members to dress out and play the second half, otherwise the score would have probably been 72-0.

we have a pathetic program and have no business being in a conference that holds the #6 team in the country. we should be playing Eastern New Mexico and other community colleges in the area. I don't blame Boise for wanting to leave the conference

they really need to just drop the program... it is wasted money and the only thing good year in and year out is the Pride.... ever since the eighties, it has been like that...
(for those that dont know.. the Pride is the university marching band...)
