Who cares, whoever is a UK fan should be slapped by somebody who just had their fingers in their booty for 10 minutes.

It's not mentioned in the story, but Beard and Groza were playing in the NBA for the Indianapolis Olympians when the scandal broke.

IU should know all about the word "tarnished" these days. It cracks me up that everyone thinks IU had a clean program all these years, when the reality is that they didn't!

there's old saying "it was so cold in Rupp Arena that the players had their hands in their own pockets."

What players these men---Jones,
Beard, Groza, Barker---were! I remember seeing them play as the
Indianapolis Kauskies (sp?) in 1950 and
1951 in the NBA at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
They were talented and played as a unit, hustling much like did when they won as the NCAA twice. As I remember
a player from Tennesse was a forward on
the Indy (Walther) to compete against
the Lakers (Miken) and the other teams when the NBA was an 8-team league. What talent!!!

Now they just need to ban IU from the NCAA. They've never won anything anyway! Not compared to Purdue!

C'mon, Indy Star, don't you think this man has paid enough in his life for an offense that happened over 50 years ago, that we could come up with a better headline for his obituary?? He lost his career, but still lived for quite some time -- I bet he wasn't a "tarnished" father or husband or grandfather.

Why must this one bad decision define his life?

What are you talking about? Did you just land on this planet last year? IU has won a few NCAA Championships, and they have won more NCAA Championships than Purdue. Get your head out of your a$$ and pay attention!

What years are you talking about? Name one NCAA violation during the Knight era (chair throwing and dumping LSU fans in trash cans don't count).

Ralph Beard & teammates became the Indianapolis Olympians after college and were a great Prof. team and fun to watch before being banned.

I am Ralph Beard's granddaughter, and I am suprised by your comment. Should his affiliation with a certain athletics team, UK, in a life of 79 years, define his life? Absolutely not. First, he did love his days at UK, and they were some of the best of his life. However, he also loved a good game- not a particular team. He was an avid sports fan and simply enjoyed seeing great athletics. I think you are terribly remiss for making any judgement of a man you never knew simply from what college team he played on. He was in actuality a wonderful man- lively, friendly, sarcastic, humble and honest-a million wonderful and admirable things. But you have never known that and never will. Regardless, I did. I know. And my family knows. And in the end, that's all that matters.

"Loosier" That's so original. Next, I'll bet you'll call him Cellvin Sampson.
