Yeah I saw that style of collection in almost every denom and church I witnessed, two were ok, they just had an anon box where envelopes could be put in and no mention of tithing or giving money, it was left up to each person to do as they saw fit.
Two out of hundreds that is.
Odd is right, what a sight!
Although, it's not so different to an intense concert or large sporting event.
Suggestion is a powerful thing.
The medium size to mega size churches are the worst offenders.

In my experience, the best churches are real small ones, the ones with less than 100 people in it.

Glossolalia. Very familiar with Full Gospel-ers. A few years back, members around home started claiming the silver fillings in their teeth had turned to gold. Preacher told congregation near us that he had a vision. In his vision, he told them, members went together and paid off all his credit cards. One preacher the congregation if they voted him out, the Lord would give them all cancer. Doc, if you were raised Pentecostal, ain't no wonder you hate the Christian stuff. I hate the sonsubitches and I wasn't even in that click. Might have to cut you some slack.
Thanks, but actually, I liked them. I've told you my story. It wasn't the people. I just wasn't able to suspend disbelief indefinitely. I had assumed that if I gave it time, and there was something supernatural there - something authentic - that I would see what it was, and that my doubts would vanish. They didn't, and I eventually moved on.

But I don't blame the people, who were Pentecostals. They were good people, good to me, and I liked them very well.

And to you Christians that want to blame me for that, that's your prerogative. But I can assure you that if your god is real, he didn't want me.

What state was that in, if I may ask?
Hagerstown, Maryland, very close to the Pennsylvania border. It was called Faith Chapel, pastor Terry King.

There are about 653 people reading the entire Top Stories forum, of which this is but one. Hardly a worthy venue for you to display your ignorance issues when there are more visible venues for your talent to be displayed.
I appreciate your pity, but would appreciate your sending money and some young pussy to help me spend it even more. Such would get my lonely old self off of here and probably eliminate my display of pseudo intellect, leaving the forum wide open for yours.

Rocks are atheists. You are an atheist.
This whole thing is starting to make sense.
Your problem, Butt Cheeks is that you are not *quite* as smart as a rock is.

This is why you have faith, you see.

Even **rocks** are smarter and better educated than you.

You give such rich advice.
You see, Butt Cheeks, you are dumber than a box of rocks.

You admitted it earlier.

That is *almost* a demonstration of intelligence-- sadly, a feature you lack completely.

Telling the world what you do for "fun" is not a very good idea, Butt Cheeks.

Your police record is long enough as it is-- but here you go, telling everyone what you do every night.

No *wonder* you are so brain-damaged-- if the above is what you do for "fun".

Sad.

The BBC (and others) have done measured and blind subjective tests on various cable types and the quality of the cable has no baring on the sound quality.
However I do know a couple of audiophiles that swear blind that their monster cable sounds better.
There was a very curious study done a few years back, about wine tasters.

These people are professionals at testing wine and such.

But they were easily fooled by the pre-perception of the wines in question.

The study used the same wine for all the "tests", but bottled it under various labels, some quite expensive, some el-cheapo, and so on.

The testers uniformly graded the various wines commiserate with the labels on the bottle.

Even EEG machines, which objectively measured the level of brain-interaction seemed to agree.(complicated to go into how the formed a base line for that)

In short? Our own perceptions of whatever it is we are enjoying are directly affected by our own prejudices-- the parts of our brains which reward things we like, and discourage things we don't, can be affected by what we perceive about an experience, even before the actual experience itself.

So it's not quite as cut and dried as all that-- but I do take your point, that the cable itself, so long as it's adequate (or better) for the electrical needs, cannot affect the actual sound produced.

But. The listener's *perception* can be adversely affected if he/she thinks the cables are inferior in some fashion. His/her brain actually changes the experience into a negative one-- based on what he/she *thinks* is happening.

So much for objectivity. <laughing>
