It is a horrific thing to contemplate....and Hitch was right.
I read somewhere (a long time ago) that 97% of this country's indigenous population was wiped out...and more native Americans died of white men's disease that white men's bullets....another horror.
On the flip side, they **did** get a kind of Pyrrhic revenge in the form of tobacco-caused cancers...
... I suspect that all the dead would have happily traded that "revenge" for a longer chance at life, though.
