Atheism requires as much faith as religion? bearvspuma : The only problem with this rationalization is that ita s assuming all athiests are so because theya re intelligent in the ways of science and reasoning and all people that believe in a form of god are unintelligent.

Syphilis sounds a lot like AIDS arguments today.
400 years ago, before there was any real science behind it (no microscopes, no Petri dishes, no germ theory, no antibody or for that matter any other scientific medical tests, etc.,) syphilis was known as "The Great Masquerader" because it supposedly had no specific symptoms of its own, but instead was claimed to have the ability to exactly mimic the symptoms of any of a list of over 400 other diseases.

Needless to say, in such a situation, a physician can only make a diagnosis by considering the patient's sexual history (not to mention his race, social class, etc.) If he's considered to be in a "risk group" then it was syphilis, but if not, it was diagnosed as just one of the 400 diseases that syphilis could mimic.

Then, once doctors started using mercury to treat syphilis, syphilis did develop its own specific symptoms, but curiously, they were identical to what are now known as the symptoms of mercury poisoning. Later, arsenic was added to the treatment regimen, and syphilis similarly developed the curious ability to mimic the symptoms of arsenic poisoning.

...Is any of this starting to sound a tad too familiar?

A physician named Herbert M. Shelton wrote a book about syphilis in 1962 called "Syphilis: Is it a Myschievous Myth or a Malignant Monster?" Today it is available for free online. Of particular note is the fact that if you read it, it's like reading Duesberg on AIDS. There is virtually nothing that we HIV/AIDS critics could say about AIDS that Dr. Shelton wasn't saying about syphilis 50 years ago. Their arguments and criticisms are so similar that after reading it, I was convinced that either Duesberg is dead wrong.

I imagine a similar sort of debate occurring when Kodak first made photography accessible to the general public by releasing easy-load push-button cameras and doing the post processing. There will have been those who exclaimed that all of the artistry and creativity was being stripped away in favour of mass-produced imagery.
Of course, today the vast majority of photos taken are dismissable snapshots, but there is also an unquestionable photographic art - appreciated alongside other visual media, but never in competition or comparison.
I agree that the accessibility of electronic devices allows (even encourages) anyone to produce unsophisticated electronic burps and farts, but isn't it possible that electronic music will develop as its own distinct acoustic art form with its own masters of the medium? Perhaps it already has - though none come to mind.
The artistry in photography was choosing the right subject, capturing a special moment, focusing on the values of light and dark, capturing just the right shadings, not in the actually processing of the film, that was "grunt" work made easier through technology.

You can't use electronic music and the word acoustics in the same breath, in music there is a clear distinction between electronically produced sounds and sound generated by "acoustic" instruments.

It seem's I'm being painted into the position of reject all technological advancements, and nothing could be further from the truth. I fully realize electronic music as a viable medium, the college I teach at has an electronic music department, and I know many of the professors, so I understand the medium.I might add that this major is not well attended, and most of the students that take these courses do so in conjunction with film scoring.

It may well develope into an art form, it hasn't as yet, and the "masters" will most likely be computer programers with an interest in music. The sounds will be there own, and any attempt to duplicate the sounds of real acoustic instruments will always fail.

No it doesn't.

"The group reports that 33 percent of all born-again Christians who have been married have gone through divorce compared to 34 percent of non-born-again adults."

Instead of posting news blogs, try posting some actual data.

What percentage of the US is Christian? How many people is that?

What percentage of the US is atheist? How many people is that?

How many atheist marriages are there in the US?

How many Christian marriages are there in the US?

How many of either end up in divorce?

Figure out those numbers, then you might have some ground to stand on.
