Rare Earthquake Warning Issued for Oklahoma

Mile for mile, there are almost as many earthquakes rattling Oklahoma as California this year. This major increase in seismic shaking led to a rare earthquake warning today (May 5) from the U.S. Geological Survey and the Oklahoma Geological Survey.

In a joint statement, the agencies said the risk of a damaging earthquake — one larger than magnitude 5.0 — has significantly increased in central Oklahoma.

Geologists don't know when or where the state's next big earthquake will strike, nor will they put a number on the increased risk. "We haven't seen this before in Oklahoma, so we had some concerns about putting a specific number on the chances of it," Robert Williams, a research geophysicist with the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program in Golden, Colorado, told Live Science. "But we know from other cases around the world that if you have an increasing number of small earthquakes, the chances of a larger one will go up."

Biden sneaks her into the Oval Office and the White House kitchen, where they get reprimanded by Michelle Obama for eating ice cream. They then head to "the real seat of power" to hijack The Washington Post's headlines before winding down their adventures at a tattoo parlor, where they run into Nancy Pelosi. "You know the difference between a tattoo and the Koch brothers?" Pelosi asks them. "They're both painful, but you can get rid of a tattoo."......

<quoted text>Compared to any other time in history, there was not an investigation that would produce any evidence and the shame is that the media is complacent about it.
As we all know by now, the Obama administration bungled everything about Benghazi on September 11, 2012, leading to the tragic death of our ambassador and three more brave Americans. Yet at the same time, we must admit that the administration was successful in covering up its own fecklessness–at least well enough to get through last year’s presidential election.
Yet in the last few days, that coverup has been uncovered, as all Americans can now see.
But of course, then Obama would have had to cancel his campaign events, hunker down in the White House, and prove himself to be a real commander-in-chief.[snip]
It never seems to have occurred to Obama, or anyone else in his administration, that the Benghazi tragedy required some sort of midcourse correction, away from campaigning and toward governing. No, the campaign strategy had been set in Chicago long before: The Obama re-election campaign was predicated on the idea that the 44th President had killed Osama Bin Laden and won the war on terror.
So Obama’s team was all assembled for that famous photo in the White House Situation Room as they awaited the news of the Bin Laden raid in Pakistan on May 1, 2011. But then, more than a year later, a new attack by Al Qaeda on a new 9/11 simply wasn’t part of the carefully laid out campaign script. And since campaigning was paramount, the Al Qaeda role in the Benghazi attack had to be airbrushed out by the White House–with the aid, of course, of an adoring media.
Thus the terrorist assassins became, in the Obama narrative, just an unruly mob, fired up by some dumb Mohammed video made in California. Once that cover story was settled upon, that was the beginning of the cover-up of Benghazi.
As the rubble in Benghazi was still smoldering, the President declared, on September 12, 2012,“We will work with the Libyan government to bring to justice the killers who attacked our people.”
'bungled everything'? LOL The Obama Administration sure was swift , with help from the Libyan government to capture , try , and sentence the attackers of the Benghazi consulate . What was the cover-up? Whether or not an American -made anti- Muslim crude hate video helped inflame practicing Muslims anti-American sentiments throughout the Middle East. No doubt that it did and the idiot racist pastor who made the anti-Muslim video is now behind bars on unrelated charges of fraud and tax evasion.

What really upsets me is they demand all these documents regarding fringe conspiracy theories like Fast & Furious, the IRS, Benghazi and then they redact them to tell a false story that they want the public to hear at a cost of millions upon millions of dollars. Shameful.
They're losing a ton of credibility the longer they push.

I suspect it's a sign of desperation.

Antarctic Ice Shelf On Brink Of Unstoppable Melt That Could Raise Sea Levels For 10,000 Years

"OSLO, May 4 (Reuters)- Part of East Antarctica is more vulnerable than expected to a thaw that could trigger an unstoppable slide of ice into the ocean and raise world sea levels for thousands of years, a study showed on Sunday.

The Wilkes Basin in East Antarctica, stretching more than 1,000 km (600 miles) inland, has enough ice to raise sea levels by 3 to 4 metres (10-13 feet) if it were to melt as an effect of global warming, the report said.

The Wilkes is vulnerable because it is held in place by a small rim of ice, resting on bedrock below sea level by the coast of the frozen continent. That "ice plug" might melt away in coming centuries if ocean waters warm up.

"East Antarctica's Wilkes Basin is like a bottle on a slant. Once uncorked, it empties out," Matthias Mengel of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, lead author of the study in the journal Nature Climate Change, said in a statement."

Brunei's new laws affect Sultan's Hollywood ties

By SANDY COHEN

AP Photo

LOS ANGELES (AP)-- Hollywood is responding to harsh new laws in the tiny Southeast Asia nation of Brunei by boycotting the Beverly Hills Hotel.

The Motion Picture & Television Fund joined a growing list of organizations and individuals Monday refusing to do business with hotels owned by the sultan or government of Brunei. They're protesting the country's new Islamic Shariah criminal law that calls for punishing adultery, abortions and same-sex relationships with flogging and stoning.

The Motion Picture & Television Fund says it won't hold its annual Night Before the Oscar party at the hotel as it has for many years.

"We cannot condone or tolerate these harsh and repressive laws and as a result support a business owned by the sultan of Brunei or a Brunei sovereign fund associated with the government of Brunei," the fund's directors said in a statement.

Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, who owns the Beverly Hills Hotel, has praised his country's new laws as a "great achievement."

"The decision to implement the (Shariah penal code) is not for fun but is to obey Allah's command as written in the Quran," the sultan said last week.

Brunei, a conservative country where alcohol is banned and Muslim courts already govern family affairs, began phasing in its version of Shariah that allows for penalties such as amputation for theft and stoning for adultery. Most of the punishments can be applied to non-Muslims, who account for about one-third of the 440,000 people in the oil-rich country...."

Health care law-Holocaust comparison criticized

By ERIK SCHELZIG
Associated Press

NASHVILLE, Tenn.(AP)-- A state Senator's blog post likening the insurance requirement under President Barack Obama's health care law to the forced deportation of Jews during the Holocaust drew swift condemnation Monday from leaders of both parties in Tennessee.

Republican Sen. Stacey Campfield of Knoxville wrote the comment in a post titled "Thought of the Day."

"Democrats bragging about the number of mandatory sign ups for Obamacare is like Germans bragging about the number of manditory sign ups for `train rides' for Jews in the 40s," he wrote.

State Republican Party Chairman Chris Devaney called the comment "ignorant and repugnant," and called for an immediate apology to the Jewish community. Democratic Party Chairman Roy Herron called the statement "outrageous, pathetic, and hateful."

State Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey said Campfield's comments were "extremely insensitive and crossed the line," while fellow Republican state House Majority Leader Gerald McCormick called them "distasteful and classless."

Campfield in a phone interview shrugged off the criticism, and said he stands by his comments...."
