Good thing we don't have a Church of the United States.
Which is the point you and your liberal pals keep missing. Our First Amendment gives us the right to exercise and express ANY religion. The phrase "separation of church and state" mentioned by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists is to ensure the separation of the state from establishing a religion, i.e. the Church of England.
Wrong again Carol! The purpose of the wall of separation is not primarily to prevent the establishment of a national religion but prevent both the intrusion of government into religious practice and undue influence of religion in our laws or secular institutions like schools. It's a two way street.
In the 1980 Supreme Court ruling in Stone v Graham stated;
"The pre-eminent purpose for posting the Ten Commandments on schoolroom walls is plainly religious in nature. The Ten Commandments is undeniably a sacred text in the Jewish and Christian faiths, and no legislative recitation of a supposedly secular purpose can blind us to that fact."
In 2004 the Dover PA school board made up of right wing religious zealots tried to insert warmed over Creationism rebranded as "Intelligent Design" into school science classes. Several parents brought suit and a federal judge, John E. Jones III, a Bush appointee ruled that this was an unconstitutional insertion of religion into a public school curriculum.

Anybody but obama should have won the 2000 election. Unfortunately the american death wish kicked into action and you elected someone stupider than Carter and, despite the best efforts of President Obama, you will be paying for your stupidity for decades.

Breaking: NYT

He lied. He knew but said he did not. Now he says he forgot. Bye-bye Christie.

Other interesting new facts emerged, revealed in the report, that are scandalous.

Port Authority told Christie about the closings at Sept. 11 meeting.

The Port Authority official who oversaw the lane closing at the George Washington Bridge said that he had he informed Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey about it at a Sept. 11 memorial while the closings were occurring, according to an internal investigation released on Thursday by lawyers for the governor.
The official, David Wildstein, told Mr. Christie’s press secretary of the Sept 11 conversation at a dinner in December just before his resignation from the Port Authority, according to the report.

The report said that Mr. Christie did not recall any such conversation and finds no evidence that he was involved in the scheme, which snarled traffic for thousands of commuters in Fort Lee, N.J., from Sept. 9 through the morning of Sept. 12.

It is said that he got tears in his eyes when he was told in January. I'm sure he was thinking, "there goes my presidency."

UPDATE:

Per the wonderful Steve Kornaki, on msnbc, just now: "This is Christie's defense." It is written by his lawyer and,as Kornaki reasons, presents the case the defense attorneys would make in any legal proceedings. It should not be seen as an objective report.

Christie's legal team plays down the conversation where Wildstein says that he talked directly to Christie about it because they claim it was not presented as retribution but as something routine.

None of the directly implicated people talked to them.

This is the story of MSNBC in a nutshell: It rose to prominence on its criticism of George W. Bush, peaked during Barack Obama’s historic 2008 campaign, and, by criticizing Republicans and championing liberal causes, sustained its viewership in the years that followed.

Until now.

MSNBC suffered harder loses in 2013 — in terms of both viewership and revenue — than either of its competitors at Fox News and CNN, according to Nielsen data featured in a new Pew Research report. Prime-time viewership declined by a staggering 24 percent (nearly twice the loss sustained by CNN and four-times that sustained by Fox News). Daytime viewership fell by 15 percent, even as it rose at both of the other networks.

On the revenue side, MSNBC was projected to decline by 2 percent, while both CNN and Fox News were projected to experience growth of 2 percent and 5 percent, respectively. MSNBC was expected to bring in $475 million in revenue: less than half what CNN will make and roughly one-quarter of what Fox News will make.

IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told a House panel that congressional investigators can try to hold him in contempt over the Tea Party targeting scandal whenever they think that they can make the charge stick, something he thinks is unlikely.
The topic came up when Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., asked for a date at which it would be appropriate for agency officials to be held in contempt if they have not yet provided the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee with documents that have been requested from the IRS.

"I think the timeline is whenever you think you could actually sustain that in a court," Koskinen replied. "I think we have a strong case that we have been cooperative, continue to be cooperative, and anybody looking at the systems we have and the time it takes would find that we've provided you more cooperation than, in fact, might be expected. And I think that, in fact, arguing and threatening contempt in that situation without understanding the circumstances is probably not going to be held up."

Gunners ex wife is safe. Thank god.

The Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that a federal law intended to keep guns away from domestic violence offenders can apply even if their crime was nothing more than "offensive touching."
The decision was a victory for gun control advocates and groups that work to protect battered spouses and children, and a defeat for gun rights organizations who argued the federal law goes too far.

For the justices, it came down to the proper definition of "physical force" -- one that a majority of them decided did not have to be violent, or even directly applied to the victim by the abuser. Routine battery convictions, the court said, are sufficient to trigger the gun ban.
