Not a good Idea ..opposed to this

Belgian lawmakers have voted overwhelmingly to extend the country's euthanasia law to children under the age of 18. The 86-44 vote in the House of Representatives, on Thursday, with 12 abstentions, followed approval by the senate in December.

The law lifts Belgium's age restrictions on euthanasia and can sanction it where children have a terminal and incurable illness, are near death, and suffering "constant and unbearable physical" pain, and where parents and professionals agree to the choice.

The law was opposed by some Belgian
paediatricians and
the country's leading Roman Catholic cleric.

The law will come into effect when signed by Belgium's monarch, King Philippe, who is not expected to oppose the measure.

The decision to proceed with each proposal of euthanasia will also have be agreed by a treating physician and an outsider brought in to give a second opinion.

Children will have to be interviewed by a paediatric psychiatrist or psychologist, who must determine that the child possesses "the capacity of discernment", and then certify that in writing.

The child's physician must meet the parents or legal representatives to inform them of the outcome of the consultation and ensure they are in agreement with the child's decision. The request for euthanasia, as well as the agreement by parents or legal representatives, must be delivered in writing, and the child and family must be given psychological care if wanted.

Gerlant van Berlaer, a paediatric critical care specialist at University Hospital Brussels, suggested that any steps towards euthanasia could take weeks or months.

A federal commission, half of whose 16 members are medical doctors, was created by the euthanasia law passed in 2002 to examine all cases of euthanasia in Belgium and to ensure the procedures established were respected.

This headline just caught my eye.

Belgium: Lawmakers vote for children's 'right to die' euthanasia law

It's for terminally ill children who have no hope of cure and who are suffering. It requires consent by all involved and a psychologist's determination that all involved can discern making this kind of decision.

It's one of those things I try not to have an opinion about. No one wants to see their child suffer through a long lingering death that's inevitable.(Not just impaired - mentally or physically - but literally suffering.) But ending your child's life sooner even if to end their suffering is the unthinkable.

Ending a child's suffering does seem like an act of mercy. It's just what it would take to show that kind of mercy. And living with the emotional and spiritual assurance it was the right decision.

Just so very sad. Sorry to leave on such a depressing note.

Do you give a pass to drunks and the morbidly obese? Or do you want to ban their personal choices too?
Can't have it both ways.

Ironic we both saw that at the same time. I was typing my post about it at the same time you posted yours. Just now read it.

But I'm glad you're opposed to it. I try not to think about it.

Because, right or wrong, I'd probably want someone to end my suffering if I was going to die anyway, So that's why I try not to think about it.

I would agree with you if everyone hadn't already lost their minds and perspective about smoking because of the politically correct propaganda.

That's my main point in this discussion. It's only worrisome if CVS became another victim of this mind control. Because it might spread.

In my post I stated that by federal law that pot was illegal and that the feds could if they choose could prosecute. The pot business is not underground. It is open, the state requires you have a license, to grow, process or sell the stuff. All facets of the legal in the state of Washington pot business are easily available to the public.
You are correct, the feds could prosecute now or in the future. Hopefully they can find better ways to spend their time.
Peace
Washington pot dealers can have all the state licensing, pay taxes, etc....and they are still committing a felony....and confessing to same.....

now, who would be foolish enough to bet their life and their freedom on the belief that every President would be as lawless as Obama???......

so, smoking pot may be an acceptable risk, but dealing is definitely not....

not to mention the possibility of a summary death sentence from your business competition....

Another liberal so worried about the poor, she stole from them: but that is what most liberals aka democrats do:

The director of Colorado’s health exchange has been placed on administrative leave after the state discovered she had been indicted for stealing from a non-profit, the Denver Post reports:

[Christa Ann] McClure, 51, pleaded not guilty Feb. 6 in federal District Court in Montana to eight counts of theft and fraud from a nonprofit housing agency in Billings.

She was indicted Jan. 16 and notified her current Denver employer, the state-sponsored health exchange, on Monday, a few days after the story broke in Montana media, Connect for Health spokesman Ben Davis said in a telephone interview.

Connect for Health performed a criminal background check and checked references before hiring McClure in March, Davis said.

“She was completely clean,” he said. Her position as executive director of Housing Montana of Billings, he said, made her well-qualified for her post as Connect for Health’s director of partner engagement — she was liaison with state and federal partners, such as Medicaid officials. The job pays $130,000 a year.

… McClure, who has not been convicted of any charges, should have informed Connect for Health much earlier of the accusations she was facing, Davis said.

McClure was released pending trial, now scheduled for June. Each of the counts in the indictment against her carry potential penalties of five, 10 or 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

The 12-page indictment alleges that, while serving as executive director of the federally funded Housing Montana, McClure, between 2008 and 2010, paid herself “significant sums” for consulting services, although she was already on the payroll as a full-time employee.

She also made payments to her family and used federal money for personal travel, to pay family bills and to buy consulting services, the indictment alleges.

She also is accused of charging homeowners for a $750 warranty that did not exist, converting a laptop for personal use, inflating the hours she was to be compensated and writing herself a $21,000 check to which she was not entitled.

The indictment did not specify the total amount she allegedly embezzled.
