Hackers have thrown about 16 attacks at the US's HealthCare.gov website, a top US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official says.

According to CNN, Acting Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Roberta Stempfley of the Office of Cybersecurity and Communications says that the attacks, now under investigation, all failed.

Ms. Stempfley testified at a hearing of the House Homeland Security (HHS) Committee, saying that the attempts were made between 6 and 8 November, but that none were successful.

Authorities are also investigating a separate report of a denial of service (DoS) tool designed to bombard the healthcare site with more requests than it can handle without going belly-up.

The tool was spotted for download from a few sites and mentioned in social media, as Arbor Networks researcher Marc Eisenbarth first described in a blog posting on 7 November.

Eisenbarth wrote at the time that there's been no evidence that HealthCare.gov has been subjected to any significant denial of service attacks since it went live in October.

He also said that the detected tool's request rate, non-distributed attack architecture and other limitations mean that the tool is "unlikely to succeed in affecting the availability of the healthcare.gov site."

The tool is designed to put a strain on the site by repeatedly alternating requests to the https://www.healthcare.gov and https:www.healthcare.gov/conta ct-us addresses.

Someone asked why did CGI violate HIPPA and the usual standards for Health Care insurance sites. Their answer was the Obama admin ordered them to do so.
A lady is complaining from California she had catastrophic insurance, then they called and canceled it, then she went to the O'bamacare web site-signed up and could not get insurance- then O'bama said she could keep it so she got another letter stating she had all these diseases that she had never been tested for and did not know she had and the insurance company rated her as a high risk. Where did they get the information? no one could tell her. The other problem is even though she now has the catastrophic plan she will still be fined. What kind of crazy crap is this?

assuming you are referring to non-hospital "prompt care" facilities, why would anyone with insurance go to a "drop-in clinic" where the personnel and facilities are far below hospital standards?
Depends on the city. My long time doctor (local) also works shifts at a (local) walk in clinic associated with a large (local) hospital. So do many other local physicians. The town is loaded with specialists also. Clinic is much cheaper than an ER visit, though I wouldn't use the clinic for a legit "emergency."

Well, isn't this just special?

"In the home stretch of the 2012 presidential campaign, from August to September, the unemployment rate fell sharply — raising eyebrows from Wall Street to Washington.

The decline — from 8.1 percent in August to 7.8 percent in September — might not have been all it seemed. The numbers, according to a reliable source, were manipulated.

And the Census Bureau, which does the unemployment survey, knew it.

Just two years before the presidential election, the Census Bureau had caught an employee fabricating data that went into the unemployment report, which is one of the most closely watched measures of the economy.

And a knowledgeable source says the deception went beyond that one employee — that it escalated at the time President Obama was seeking reelection in 2012 and continues today.

“He’s not the only one,” said the source, who asked to remain anonymous for now but is willing to talk with the Labor Department and Congress if asked."

Folks, I am getting sick & tired of not being trusted by you people. Yes, it's true that no background check was needed for me to get my job at HealtCare.Gov .(Whew! Dodged that bullet!). Yes, it's true my training was minimal. Finally, it's true that I'll have access to enough information to steal your identity.

But...come on!...have a little faith, won't you? Where's all that "hope & change" spirit? Once the website is up & running, I'll be happy to help. Sure, it has a few bugs and security gaps, but they're working hard on that...so they tell me.

If you don't trust me, don't you trust your President? Would he lie? What are you, racist or something?

Remember: If you like your identity, you can keep it....PERIOD!

Patrick fails to know that the website is unsecure. Doesn't take much but some good guessing to get in as someone else.

The HHS was aware of this and gave itself a waiver...

"The House Oversight Committee released an Obama administration memo that shows four days before the launch, the government took an unusual step. It granted itself a waiver to launch the website with "a level of uncertainty ... deemed as a high (security) risk."

"I hope the next stop will be Congress, since manipulation of data like this not only gives voters the wrong impression of the economy but also leads lawmakers, the Federal Reserve and companies to make uninformed decisions.
To cite just one instance, the Fed is targeting the curtailment of its so-called quantitative easing money-printing/bond-buying fiasco to the unemployment rate for which Census provided the false information."

If true, this was totally irresponsible behavior.
