Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio Racially Profiled Latinos, Federal Judge Rules
""PHOENIX, May 24 (Reuters)- Arizona lawman Joe Arpaio violated the constitutional rights of Latino drivers in his crackdown on illegal immigration, a federal judge found on Friday, and ordered him to stop using race as a factor in law enforcement decisions.
The ruling against the Maricopa County sheriff came in response to a class-action lawsuit brought by Hispanic drivers that tested whether police can target illegal immigrants without racially profiling U.S. citizens and legal residents of Hispanic origin.
U.S. District Court Judge Murray Snow ruled that the sheriff's policies violated the drivers' constitutional rights and ordered Arpaio's office to cease using race or ancestry as a grounds to stop, detain or hold occupants of vehicles - some of them in crime sweeps dubbed "saturation patrols."
"The great weight of the evidence is that all types of saturation patrols at issue in this case incorporated race as a consideration into their operations," Snow said in a written ruling.
He added that race had factored into which vehicles the deputies decided to stop, and into who they decided to investigate for immigration violations.
The lawsuit contended that Arpaio, who styles himself "America's toughest sheriff," and his officers violated the constitutional rights of both U.S. citizens and legal immigrants alike in their zeal to crack down on people they believe to be in the country illegally.
The ruling came days after a U.S. Senate panel approved a landmark comprehensive immigration legislation that would usher in the biggest changes in immigration policy in a generation if passed by Congress.""

Arpaio may well die in Federal Prison, but he'll likely die during appeals.

EFFORT TO OUST SHERIFF JOE FAILS
'After months of name calling, disparaging effigies and theatrics'

The effort to recall “America’s toughest sheriff,” Maricopa County, Arizona’s Joe Arpaio, fell short of the 355,000 voter signatures needed by yesterday afternoon.

Arpaio reacted to the outcome in a statement ...

Middle Class Falls, Wall Street Rises ... and Washington Dithers
This week's "positive" economic news rings hollow to many Americans.

The president's economic agenda is designed to ease the middle-class squeeze, but he has failed to translate a populist reelection campaign message into legislative success.

Obama said Friday that the recovery can't be measured in stock prices alone, "it's about how much progress ordinary families are making. Are we creating ladders of economic opportunity for everybody who works hard?"

The answer is no.

No free lunch:
A pre-existing condition health insurance program established by Obamacare is already straining its own budget and, to control costs, the administration’s Health and Human Services Department (HHS) has stopped enrolling any new people in the program, according to an audit by the General Accountability Office (GAO).
In addition, to further control spending, HHS has directed the program to shift more of the costs onto the current enrollees, thus raising the out-of-pocket health care expenses for the people with pre-existing conditions.
“Finally, due to growing concerns about the rate of PCIP [Pre-existing Condition Insurance Program] spending, in February 2013, CCIIO [under HHS] suspended PCIP enrollment to ensure the appropriated funding would be sufficient to cover claims for current enrollees through the end of the program,” states the GAO report, Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act: Enrollment and Spending in the Early Retiree Reinsurance and Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plan Programs.

Did you really have the nerve to call others a tool, when you reliably come here daily with whatever bullspittle O'Reilly fed you the previous night.
And you don't realize that's precisely what a tool does??
You're a virtual marionette for Billy O, a man without morals.
And you're too obtuse to even see it.
Shulman was cleared to go to the White House 157 times often meeting with high-ranking administration officials. He made more visits to the WH than any other Cabinet official.

This is documented in the WH visitor's log.

It's an unprecendented number of visits by any director of the IRS.

The IRS is supposed to be autonomous from Obamacare with little influence. It is basically the bill collector.

So if all those visits were centered around Obamacare, it still shouldn't be a surprise eyebrows are still raised.

Problem #1:

The IRS scrutiny went beyond those with "tea party" or "patriot" in their names to include "worried about government spending", "debt", "taxes", and ones that lobbied to "make America a better place to live".

Problem #2:

High-ranking IRS official knew in 2011 conservative groups were being targeted. A year before Shulman told the congressional committee the agency wasn't targeting conservative groups.

The question is why? More importantly, for who?

<quoted text>You are admitting now that these conservative groups should have been turned down for their 501(c)(4) tax exempt status for breaking the tax rules. So, should the IRS just look the other way and not enforce the tax laws? The last time that the government 'looked the other way' on violations of finance laws the Wall Street banks were threatening to crash the whole system in 2007-08.
I have no idea what you're talking about. I admitted no such thing and neither did the Wall Street Journal - the article I posted reporting how far-reaching the targeting went.

It wasn't just about conservative groups being denied tax exemption status. The IRS audited individual donors and private citizens because of their political beliefs.

Is this the kind of IRS you want? A strong arm of whoever is in power?

Are we Cuba? And Obama the American version of Castro?

"Falling health-care costs are brightening the financial outlook for Medicare, extending the life of the trust fund that supports the program until 2026 — two years later than previously forecast.

The new projections, released Friday by the program’s trustees, credit President Obama’s Affordable Care Act in part for the improvement in the finances of the federal health insurance program for the elderly. The act’s limits on Medicare Advantage, a more expensive form of Medicare run by private insurers, are proving more effective than previously forecast, the report said."

Press getting run around from Principal Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest today.

Q: Can I take you back before the subpoena of phone records of my colleague, James Rosen, and ask you whether his 2009 reporting on North Korea was brought to the attention of the President or his national security advisor?

MR. EARNEST: I am not able to answer that question only because it's hard for me to assess what article or what television clip the President may or may not have seen back in 2009.

Q: Do you know if anyone in the White House national security, such as Tom Donilon, played any role in triggering the leak investigation itself by the Justice Department?

MR. EARNEST: I think we've been pretty clear that these kinds of criminal investigations are the kinds of things that are initiated by the Department of Justice and are not subject to any sort of political or White House influence.

Q: On that, David Gregory of NBC is reporting that then-Defense Secretary Panetta was so angered by the leak that he called Attorney General Holder at home and said you've got to deal with this. Can you confirm that?

MR. EARNEST: I don’t have any knowledge of phone conversations between the Attorney General and the former Secretary of Defense.

...."I don't know", "I don't have any knowledge", "I am not able to answer that question" and "the Justice Department is looking into it".

Stall, play dumb and dodge.

Will somebody ever know something about anything???
