There's no doubt in my mind homosexual couples are as fit to be good parents as heterosexuals. You're right that various studies have shown adoptive children of homosexuals are as well-adjusted as any other child.<quoted text>
"To use a broad brush and paint everyone who is against gay marraige as being against gays is an unfair and inaccurate statement."
No. You can't be my friend and be against my marriage. That's just something people tell themselves so they don't feel like bad people. You can't separate me from my husband. Rejected.
The same weak arguments you made about stigmas and children living with gay parents were made about interracial kids. Rejected. The problem there is with society, not with the interracial kids, not with the kids being raised by gay parents. And as time goes on, those problems correct themselves thanks to...what? INFORMATION and EXPERIENCE which wipe out the ignorance.
The fact is gay couples already do and will always raise children. Therefore those children must be addressed equally under the law. There is no rational reason to deny equality to their families, just because you're afraid of the unknown. You can't prove harm, game over, case closed. And all early studies show every indication kids in gay families are just fine. P.S. You don't ban single parents, so don't be a hypocrite and pretend this isn't about prejudice. Just because you can't imagine beyond your prejudice, doesn't mean the rest of us won't.
This is really about respecting your nation and your neighbors. We don't have to live by your rules.
But as loving as homosexuals might be as parents, they can't replace a loving mother and a father.
In any civilized society, there has to be a set of core values and boundaries so that everyone is at least reading the same chapter. Right now, we're reading different books. Add abortion to the mix, and we're in different libraries.
You get my drift.
Once we cross too many lines, the next version of what society must tolerate whether we like it or not is soon to follow. There is now a growing concern that infanticide is next in line. Something I hope you would find unacceptable too.
The definition of marriage is a stronghold in society that cannot be broken. As unfair as it seems to gays.
But life isn't always fair and there are some things we just have to accept. The ageless definition of marriage is one of them.
