Conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia....left open the possibility that some types of guns could be regulated by the government, such as assault weapons capable of holding 100 rounds of ammunition.

“What the opinion in Heller said is that it will have to be decided in future cases, what limitations upon the right to keep and bear arms are permissible,” Scalia said on “Fox News Sunday,” referring to the 2008 decision in District of Columbia v. Heller that protected the right to possess firearms.

“Some [limitations] undoubtedly are because there were some that were acknowledged at the time,” he continued.“There was a tort called a “frighting” which if you carried around a really horrible weapon just to scare people, like a head ax or something, that was I believe a misdemeanor. So yes there are some limitations that can be imposed, what they are will depend on what the society understood were reasonable limitations at the time.”

Louis Taylor Set Free In Arizona After 40 Years In Prison, Enjoys First Day Of Freedom

PHOENIX — Louis Taylor broke down in tears Wednesday as he described how he spent his first hours of freedom after more than 40 years in prison for a hotel fire that killed 29 people: an evening hike and some fast food.

He struggled to operate what he called an "Apple telephone" and said he was more familiar with 8-tracks than modern technology.

Taylor was released Tuesday after doubts about his conviction surfaced and he agreed to a deal with prosecutors that set him free. He pleaded no contest to each of the nearly 30 counts of murder against him in an agreement that allowed the judge to sentence him to time served.

While he has consistently maintained his innocence, Taylor said he took the deal because he wanted out now instead of remaining in prison for years more to seek vindication at a new trial.

The final step of Nazi control in Austria was registration and confiscation of guns.(Fairly Civil)

It’s not a surprise. Gun Registration often leads to confiscation.

Now this…
Harry Reid is pushing a gun control bill that will likely lead to a national gun registry.
The Foundry reported:

As Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) must know, Americans who own firearms have a special sensitivity to a “Big Brother” federal government that wants to keep centralized records on who owns what guns and where in America. Loose language in his gun control bill (S. 649) could start America down that slippery slope.

Since the Second Amendment guarantees to the people the right to keep and bear arms, many Americans look askance at efforts to create centralized records that might some day, in some distant future neither wanted nor expected, facilitate a despotic government’s efforts to disarm the populace or ensure that its supporters but not its opponents possess arms. Some Americans look at history and view that concern as far-fetched; others look at history and see careful attention to that concern as essential to maintaining freedom…

…In a departure from section 103(i) of Public Law 103-159, section 122(a)(4) of the Reid bill enacts a new section 922(t)(4)(B)(ii) of title 18 of the U.S. Code to direct Attorney General Eric Holder to issue regulations “requiring a record of transaction of any transfer that occurred between an unlicensed transferor and an unlicensed transferee.” The legislation does not define the term “record of transaction,” does not specify any limitations on who creates and who keeps the record of transaction, and does not explicitly incorporate the existing prohibition on a national firearms registry.

Please detail the President's alleged lie about background checks.

What is the "penalty" you guys keep imagining?

There are a few things being proposed that would have potentially either prevented or lessened the severity of Sandy Hook, or at least given people more of a chance. There are no guarantees, but we would be idiots to not try to do something. Are you an idiot?

First, limiting each reload to 10 rounds. Some numbskull will say a trained shooter can reload so fast it won't matter. That's nonsense.#1 Most of these mass shooters are not particularly well-trained. They're kids.#2 The guy in Tucson was stopped in that few seconds it takes to reload.#3 Reloading apparently makes a jam more likely (which happened in one of these cases, I don't remember which.)

So if, in Sandy Hook, the guy had to reload 14 times to fire his 150 rounds instead of just a few times, there is *a very good chance* fewer children would have died. Maybe he would have never made it past the first classroom. Maybe the extra few minutes would have given the police a chance to get there and blow his head off. If you don't think those maybe's are worth it, ask the parents of the very last child who got shot if they think it's worth it.

If you are against even trying to address this, you're a gun-obsessed mental case or a rabid anti-Obama lunatic. No sensible person is against background checks. If you're a normal gun owner who had a background check when you bought your gun, then you would want everyone else to have to do the same thing you did - for your own protection!

Limiting ammo and crazy military guns is SMART and does not in any way infringe upon peoples' second amendment rights, which were written out when people had guns that in no way resembled AR-15's.

Get serious, will you?

Unreal – One of Bloomberg’s ‘Mayors Against Illegal Guns’ Arrested For Trying to Force Man to Have Sex With Him … at Gunpoint
On April 3, 2013, in Gun Control, by Rusty Weiss

One of the gun-grabbing members of Michael Bloomberg’s organization, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, recently found himself trying to lure a man into a sexual encounter through the liberal use of alcohol. When the charm and alcohol didn’t do the trick, James ‘Jay’ Schiliro (R) decided to go a different route – firing a handgun into a wall in an attempt at intimidation.

The mayor who, as the title suggests, is against illegal guns, was forced to hand over his firearm collection, and has been charged with several crimes.

Via the Inquisitr:

A member of the Michael Bloomberg-sponsored gun control organization “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” has been arrested and charged in connection with a handgun incident at his home.

James Schiliro, a.k.a. Jay Schiliro, the mayor of Marcus Hook, a small town in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, faces charges of official oppression, reckless endangerment, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, and furnishing a minor with alcohol. He surrendered to authorities on Thursday morning, and his attorney declared that “we intend to fight these charges.”

Schiliro, 38, allegedly ordered a local police officer to bring a 20-year-old male friend to his home, where the mayor plied him with alcohol, and made sexual advances which the man refused. Schiliro allegedly brandished several handguns and fired one of them into the floor in an apparent attempt to intimidate the young man, who reportedly was in fear of his life.

The mayor was freed on $50,000 bail and told to stay away from the alleged victim and give up his stash of firearms.

The Lessons of Social Conservatism’s Setbacks

With same-sex marriage seemingly unstoppable, it's time to ask where the Christian Right went wrong.

No matter what the Supreme Court decides to do about the Defense of Marriage Act or California’s Proposition 8, it seems a foregone conclusion that gay marriage will one day prevail nationally.

Millions will celebrate—and social conservatives should reflect. For the coming defeat on marriage lays bare the flaws in their political strategies.

First, conservative Christians disregarded Psalms and put their trust in princes. White evangelicals, the largest single bloc of “values voters,” cast one out of every three votes George W. Bush received in 2004.

It wasn’t wrong to get involved in politics and try to reshape the Republican Party per se. But too many of them believed against all available evidence that the nation’s salvation lay in GOP presidents, legislators, and judges. That faith turned out to be misplaced.

Also, gun owners need to be more responsible. The dead mother of the Sandy Hook murderer was probably a lot like the gun wackos on this thread. "Don't restrict my rights" and she got shot to death.

If her son had mental issues, her gun should have been inaccessible by him. It's her fault he was able to get it.

MANTI, Utah — Authorities captured an elusive survivalist on Tuesday who is suspected of burglarizing Utah cabins and leaving some covered with threats and bullet holes – ending a saga that began six years ago and grabbed the attention of police and residents around the state.

Troy James Knapp, 45, dubbed the "Mountain Man" by cabin owners, was taken into custody in the snowy mountains outside of Ferron in central Utah after firing several shots at officers and a helicopter, authorities said.

Knapp was armed with several rifles and one handgun, authorities said, adding that he was wearing camouflage clothes and sporting a red beard with some gray.

After surrendering, Knapp was cooperative and talkative with police, showing them on a map everywhere he has been and telling them he was relieved to be out of the winter elements. He was captured in an area about 180 miles north of the site where detectives believed he was a year ago.

There were no previous violent confrontations with Knapp, but authorities had feared he was a ticking time bomb.

He is suspected of leaving some cabins riddled with bullet holes, defacing religious icons and writing taunting notes.

"Hey Sheriff ... Gonna put you in the ground!" he wrote in one note, according to court records.
