Because driving means independence for many seniors, my mom wouldn't give hers up no matter how hard we begged. The DMV in the state in which she lived allows people to send a letter requesting a retest of the senior in question. You had to give supporting evidence and your contact information, but they did not give this information to my mother when they asked her to come in for the test. She had not taken a driving test in more than 60 years. Her dementia was obvious to the driving tester, and mom is now safely off the roads.
