Are you kidding? There was no "glitch". The only reason that you are hearing about this is because student and parents alike got tired of waiting and went to the news media. There was never any "glitch", the Director of the computer department knew that this was an issue six months ago and did nothing about it. Not until the information got to the Superintendent and the computer Director was put under scrutiny did things get done.

Wow.....from reading the 'sound offs' it sounds like everyone in Las Cruces is mad at everyone else. Chill a little folks and do something nice for someone. It might catch on.

The first amendment gives you the freedom of speech and if you want to speak Spanish - go for it - why does it bother you so much? You are a big time racist, I speak both English and Spanish I was born in Mexico and am very proud of my background - I have lived - legally in the United States since I was a year old, but I still practice the traditions of my culture proudly, tamales at Christmas, Mother's Day May 10th, and most of all I speak Spanish if and when I want to in public as long as my friends speak it also, I don't care if some eavesdropper wants to listen to my conversation, I am not talking to them, if I wanted them to understand or I was talking to them then I would speak English. But as long as the First Amendment gives me the right that I fought for with my 22 years of military service - I will continue to speak any language I please.

I was just told that a teacher can not ask his students to speak only english in the classroom.(no i'm not the teacher) Apparently, there are a group of girls who gossip in spanish during class and the teacher told them when they are in his room (which is not an esl, ell, dual language, or bilingual room) to speak only english, they got mad. Now, one of these girls is threatening to have teachers like him fired. Oh, I also know that the parents of at least one of the girls are here illegally. Does anyone have any insight on the subject?

To the individual who does not desire to learn spanish - you don't have to! However, the New Mexico State Constitution enshrined spanish as an official language - along with english.(Seems it was part of treaty with Mexico that ceded - among other things - Mesilla to the United States.) If we go back on our word to allow spanish as an official language should Mexico ask for the return of Mesilla (and other concessions)?

BTW ... I was born in New Mexico and am quite proud that we are a multicultural state. The US motto E PLURIBUS UNUM ("Out of Many, One") enshrines a great strength of the US. Let the marketplace - and observation of our agreements that built our country - determine what language (or languages) will be spoken in the US. I too spent a few years in the military so that we could live by our constitution. Anyone who disagrees with multiculturalism and multilingual families, communities, states, and countries is free to do so ... just don't expect individuals with mature attitudes to agree with you.

Recession! The recession is coming!, Now look at our leaders scramble to find a fix. It cannot be fixed without looking at the mess the GOP left behind from the last 12 years. They ran the Senate, House, Supreme Court and the Presidency. But most of all they own the Media (FOX, AM radio). Watch and hear the machine start blaming the current Senate and House for all the problems

Move back to your bigoted cesspool you were born, bred and raised at and you won't have to listen to those of us intelligent enough to speak two or more languages. We don't speak Spanish for your bigoted ignorant convenience, we do it because we can!
I really don't care if you gringo border vagrants listen to my Spanish or not, you really do not fit in my personal lives, never did and never will. I do, however, have more in common with the outside world and with bilingual intelligence than I do with terror-stricken bigots! You do not belong on the border, get out!
Dude are you a jerk on every thread? Sheesh. I was asking a serious question. I am hardly bigoted, since I am mexican. The fact that I am not bilingual is not even the issue. I was merely asking if anyone (with a brain) knew the legalities involved. I swear, gypsy boy, everywhere you show up you let us all see what a bigoted jerk you are.
Oh yeah, for the record, my mexican family did not ever obtain a green card or apply for citizenship. But they are more legal than most of the mexican americans who live here. How? They date back to before this part of the country became part of the United States of America. Can you say the same, gypsy jerk?

It's ours.

My DNA tells me I go back in the Americas even before the Spanish, mostly likely back to China during the last ice age, DUDE! My bone picking with is, DUDE, when you gringos when in a bind all of a sudden you become "Mexicans." Your kind, DUDE, are even more hateful than those bigoted whites who condemn everything Hispanic, even the language, DUDE. You are not Mexican, Dude, you are either Spanish or a gringo. Anyway, DUDE, your is too stupid and too ignorant to learn Spanish.
By the way, DUDE, if show a sign of being bigoted, that is because bigotry is a way of life in the USA! All you have to do is wake and see and feel it, DUDE!
Nice to know you have had your DNA analyzed. Most of us just ask our parents about our lineage. Why couldn't you?
