Let's get the facts on the table first: Edwards is fine. They clearly don't want him risking injury in a meaningless game that can probably be won without him anyway. If they should actually NEED him on Saturday, rest assured you will see him. As for the prospect of an upset, without multiple ASU turnovers (six or more) and a whale of a defensive effort from the Cats, this thing goes about 52-21 IMO.

Typical Keith Jarrett article...trying to be cute and funny and always making a "dig" at WCU...somewhere something happened to him along the way that turned him completely against Western and why the ACT Sports Dept. Editor and the ACT Editor let him continue his ways is beyond me...maybe it's that they think his writing style and attitude sell papers...no class from Jarrett or the ACT...

As to the game - yes, we are definately underdogs in this...I believe we will play with a lot of emotion and be physical all game...for us to be sucessful we need some turnovers and costly penalties to happen to App...and we need to protect the ball and finish some drives...over the years in this series I have witnessed the underdogs win (and this goes both ways) numerous times...just maybe...

From an ASU team that won three consecutive national titles,
ASU's leading receiver and leading rusher are now playing in the NFL.

Now we hear that ASU's *star* quarterback is out with a hip injury,
which means that this Saturday, Western Carolina will be playing ASU's second string

Therefore, Western Carolina DOES have a chance of winning.

Do you remember Doug Mead? He was Sports Editor up there for many years as well as a huge WCU apologist. He was actually more forthright in his support of Western teams than Jarrett is in his hatred of them. I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist, but I've wondered many times if Jarrett isn't encouraged in his trashing of WCU by management types at AC-T as some sort of grand "balance" for all the Mead years. It's no secret that they took alot of heat over him; whether wrongfully or not. How else to explain such an unchecked bully pulpit?

Western stinks. That's all there is to it. You can't say good things about a bad program. Let's just hope they can get it going with Wagner after a while.

There has to be something going on...for the past several years he has had a field day blasting WCU football...yea, I know we have not had the record or success that other schools have but he crosses the line way too much...

In some e-mails with him a couple of years ago, when he was going full blast (note - he has not been covering Western as much this year) I asked him if there was not something positive he could say about the team or individual player...we were going to play Florida at the end of the season and I gave him a few examples of some of the positives out of rough season...one being Darius Fudge closing in 1,000 yards...well, he actually wrote an article about him but he managed to get his digs in still about the losing record and all...it got to the point where I believe he had a "cut and paste" section in every article for somewhere in each would appear almost the same facts and figures...

It is to the point now where it is a joke anymore to read his articles...I believe he sincerely enjoys lighting a fire under people but especially those that pull for Western...take a look at his other articles and you will very rarely see this angle taken by him...

jarrett, are you high again? Bobby Knight had it right when he said that most of us learn to write by the second grade, then move on to bigger and better things. Jarrett was obviously one of the exceptions he was speaking of. It will be interesting to read your coverage of this game, if they let you go.

Western has to ACCOMPLISH something before there can be a credible claim they have a chance. Charlie Brown could be QB AND kicker, they'll still outrun the Cats big time.

Hey, I'd LOVE to be wrong, but WCU is minimum two years away from seriously giving ASU a game, maybe longer.

I don't disagree, but at the same time you could argue that the '04 team had no business competing with ASU; even though that App team lost five games.

With the money Raleigh consistently pours into App. State, they need to do like East Carolina did a few years back and move on to a larger division. The last Chancelor feom WCU to find Raleigh on the map was Cotton Robinson.

We need the kind of win Appalachian obtained in 1994. After that win their program went into the stratosphere.
