All good things must come to an end. Too bad they f****d it away instead of losing with dignity. Oh well, it gives the chance for someone else to be on top for a change, right?

The Asheville paper covers Appy State so much because of Keith Jarrett's love affair with that college. To hear Jarrett report it, Appy State is ready to leave the SoCon and join the SEC. I know they have an excellent program, and I have pulled for them every year in the playoffs. But you are right, most people in the ACT's prime coverage area could care less, yet they get front page news. It is over for this year Jarrett, now what do you write about.

Once a fan, always a fan! I don't get why some people are so jealous of the success App has had. Many of the players come from our own area and would appreciate our support. Coach Moore is the best and runs a very respectable program. I have no doubt that App will make a comeback, and until then, I will cheer as loudly as ever!

In the last 24 years (since 1985) of the "so-called rivalry" between ASU & WCU
It is ASU with 22 wins and WCU with only 2 wins.

I say "so-called rivalry", because when I lived in Boone, NOT ONCE did I ever
hear of WCU being Appalachian State's rival ?!?!?
To ASU, Western is just another game. What rivalry ???
For ASU, the rivalry was always either Wake Forest or Georgia Southern

The so-called "ASU-WCU rivalry" is ONLY in the minds of WCU fans

Obviously someone forgot to share this with the members of a 3-7 ASU team back in '92;who celebrated like Super Bowl champs after beating Western by 2.

In the 1970's ,, ASU's main rival was East Carolina
In the 1980's ,, ASU's main rival was Wake Forest
In the 1990' and 2000's ,, ASU's main rivals was either Georgia Southern or Furman.

But WCU ?!?!?

Face it ,, accept it

The WCU-ASU "rivalry" is rivalry ONLY to WCU

I think the problem is that Western wants to be on the map for something, so maybe they figure if they associate their name with the best(ASU!), then maybe it will improve their popularity. When my children looked around for colleges, WCU was not even in the running. ASU is a great school, located in a great town, and without saying, has the best coach and players around.

I have relatives who are students there. My family and I attended the Western/App game. I don't think I have ever heard such foul language and bad sportsmanship as I did from the Western fans, not all, but some. And, as sad as it is...people tend to remember the bad fans sometimes a lot more vividly than the good fans...especially when they are foul-mouthed sons and daughters whose parents are generally spending a mint sending them to school. Sad.

I thought when you chose a college it was for the education you would receive, no the athletics program. I think most WCU alumni agree that our football program has stunk and we have been frustrated by the lack of leadership at WCU. Overall WCU continues to do very well in most athletic programs and we are the only school in the Southern Conference to have professional athletes in the NFL, NBA & MLB. That puts us on the map for something.

My goodness, listen to the bile being spilled. Western is not a rival?- then why are there a page of posts (mostly from App Folk) talking about Western? HMMM that is a puzzler.

Come on, we all pull for ASU in the playoffs. This year Richmond just did a better job taking advantage of turnovers. App will be back and as good as ever next year. We want you to be good - it will make the victory even sweeter when we beat your tails next year at the rock! Sleep easy App you got a great team. We'll see you in Boone in 09

Academically speaking both schools are far behind the national avearge. ASU does have it's football, but what else do they excel in? WCU has fielded some of the best baseball teams in the SoCon for years, and the women's baskeball program continues to rise every year. When track is mentioned in the SoCon, WCU is always at the top, their coach is the best in the conference. Unfortunately a schools athletic program is always based on success in football, so congrats ASU, you are the best in small college football. However, as someone here mentioned, college is about education, when my sons were deciding where to attend they did not consider either ASU or WCU. As one of their friends put it, "Those who can, go to college, everyone else goes to WCU or ASU."
As for bad sportsmanship and rude fans, both places have their share of drunk, spoiled kids living off mommy and daddy's college money.

This year's freshman class at App had an average high school GPA of 3.88 and an average SAT score (math & reading) of 1166. At the present time, the incoming freshman class has an average 4.06 GPA and 1200 SAT score. What were your sons' GPA and SAT scores??? As far as track, App won the 2009 SoCon Indoor Championship and the 2008 Outdoor Championship!

Appalachian is a great school and NO, we won't be fair-weather fans either. Once a Mountaineer, always a Mountaineer!
