The focus on Hill's negative qualities/stats has a LOT to do with his protection. This is how Hill compares to the top quarterbacks in the league: Brady-sacked 7 times, P. Manning-sacked 2 times, Drew Brees-sacked 4 times, Eli Manning-sacked 3 times, see a pattern here??? Shaun Hill has been sacked, wait for it, 16 TIMES! That is only the times he got sacked, Im not counting the numerous times he's been hit this year, which I imagine are at least 20. That's just way too much punishment to be taken in the first 5 weeks of the season. You can't expect the guy to be Superman out there when he's getting hit/hurried/sacked that many times a game. I've stated before in other threads, NO quarterback can play well with that kind of constant pressure in his face. Watching that Atlanta game, Hill must have been under diress about 70% of the time, and Im being modest. All Im saying is, give the guy some time to throw(and maybe some better play calling) and then judge him at that point. Before that, no one can be judged accurately, IMHO.

Do Singletary and Raye even know or understand what a passing game is?
No surprise that they're so heavily invested in the "Frank can give us 200 yeads per game"offense - it's simple, and unrealistic. But really, who doesn't live 2.5 yeard per carry - you know, touigh, in-your-face football, from players who want to win! I wish Crabtree well - for his sake and our sake. |

Only Ben Roethlisberger and Aaron Rodgers have a higher passer rating than Hill while being sacked at least 16 times.

That stat doesn't matter much. I believe Hill is sacked because the 49er offensive scheme is so limited, so that when they have to pass (after the predictable 2 rushes for 5 yards) everyone knows it and competent defenses rush hard and can restrict those ittle check offs to Vernon Davis. Hill gets sacked because our offensive scheme is lousy - I think the line is okay (not great, but adequate.) |

It might be time to sign Jeff Garcia
Just as a stop gap But, he might be better than any QB on our roster The 49ers have tow 1st round pick in the 2010 draft One should be a RT The other should be a QB No getting around it Still, Hill hasn;t been getting good protection And the Offense has been predictable Except last week when they THREW against a team with a BAD Run defense ??? |

Thats true too Martina2. You're helping me make my case that Hill is being made to look like he is part of the problems we have, when really a multitude of things is making it much more difficult for him to be the solution. I think that the O-line adjustments make sense(on paper), but I still feel that the O-line is the key to this team's success. It doesn't matter what the defense does, special teams, etc. if the O-line doesn't do their job. I really think that having Crabtree will help soften up the box a little bit, but we still need to mix it up in terms of play calling or else it won't matter. But if we can get some early completions to Crabtree & Co., then we'll see the running game flourish. The key right now is not even 3rd down, but what we do on 1st and 2nd down. I still like our chances this weekend and for the remainder of the season. Go Niners!!! |

I have to admit it, I wish the 49ers hired Holmgren to be GM and Shanahan to coach - those guys have been here, and would be right in line with a 49er tradition of offense. |
||||
I agree completely, but you have to keep in mind the fact that it would have taken a lot to get either one, or both of those guys here. The fact is, they probably looked at us the way the rest of the league did, and thought, "they're not very good, and it might take awhile to rebuild this team without a solid quarterback and a suspect offensive line." I just think that that was their thought process, among other things. But I think we will be better, and if we have to find another OC next year or in a few years, I don't think Singletary will let the offense move backwards in any way. We'll see.. Still a lot of football left for these players and this coaching staff. |
