BCS rejects plan to turn system into 4-team playoff

“There's no such thing as standing pat. I think we've done a service (by presenting the plan for a plus-one). We owed the fans and media an explanation as to why we're not moving ahead. "I can't say I'm surprised. There is a bit of disappointment.”

Even a three-game playoff was too much for the BCS. Bowl Championship Series officials rejected a plan Wednesday to turn the much-criticized system for deciding a national champ into a playoff involving four ... via Wral.com

those bcs officials (if you want to call them that) are just part time...one official has a waste disposal service, another works in a movie theater...so now you know part of how they arrive at a point to make a deciding point while discussing others points in association with the fist points to be decided....

i dont understand how they can say that the BCS is working.....i say this as a big-time SEC fan, who should be happy with it cause we have dominated the last couple of years, but truth be told, its a holllow victory, a MINIMUM 4 team play-off is what is needed, and for other confrences to say no, that's fine, but for there reason to be that the BCS is working???!!!!! Just show's what is wrong with college football in general, a bunch of people who dont listen to what there fan base has to say, i guess the Big-10 can be happy cause OSU has been there twice in a row, but with a four team play-off the last to national champonship games would have been an SEC team....Florida in 06-07, Georgia in 07-08 vs the Trojans, the poor Big10 woulda been left out cause they fail to compete. What is confusing is the ACC, Pac-10, and big-10 were against it, damn academics trying to make money rather then let a championship be what it should....the TWO best playing for it all, sad part is, there money made from a four-team play-off would far exceed anything they are gettting to keep the Status Quo.

1ST PAY THE PLAYERS! LSU qb gets dumped from team for failing drug test. OU head coach gets $6,000,000.00 in 2008. players need cut of big money BCS gravy.

If they are not going to accept a playoff because, and we all know why, it diminishes the bowls that don't deal with the teams that would be involved in a playoff, then atleast play one game at the end of the year to tighten up the race a little bit.
What I speak of is an additional gamed earned by the 1 and 2 seeds in each conf., including independants-(Notre Dame fans don't have a fit!). Each year the team that wins the conf. is a 1 seed that would earn an additional home game against the 2 seed of another conf. or major ind. The conf. would alternate every year. One year the winner of the SEC would play the # 2 seed of the ACC. Next year the Big Ten etc. This would allow voters and even computer rankings to get a better feel for how the power teams in the conf. measure up before choosing bowl matchups. Thus a better chance the top 2 teams would be in the final bowl game AND better pairings for the other bowl matchups. Enhances the bowls, gives more info on who should play in the BCS champ., and more money for everybody!

I think that the BCS is lacking just that...BASIC COMMON SENSE! The Championship series just doesn't make any sense for any of the parties involved. Now I love the idea of having a tournament type atmosphere at the end of the season but I think it should be expanded to at least the final top 15 teams combined from the coaches poll and the Associated Press and, just that they don't feel left out, the BCS can still have a say in who plays. The final top team will have a bye in the first round but after that...PLAY TILL THERE IS A CHAMPION!!!! How hard is that? If a team ranked #10 runs through the tournament and beats the #1 or whatever rank then they are the National Champion. The fact that almost every damn company and/or sponsor in the nation hosts a bowl each year only shows that the college game has gone from playing for the love of the game to playing for a paycheck.

4 team playoff?

What about the teams ranked #5-8? They will complain.

No matter what...people or computers will have to decide who is #1-4 and who is left out.

There will still be drama from the idiots that complain now.

Why does the BCS get to decide everything anyways?

Bring on the playoffs. You can space them so players get time to rest, but the current BCS system stinks.

You want paid players...watch the PROS! We don't need to cheapen the college game by paying players. They start that, then you have them holding out for more $$$$. The can wait their 2 to 3 years, then get paid...
