PAC-10 Power Rankings/Report

Full story: CBS 2 - KCAL 9

The conference gets another tilt with national title implications on the line in Eugene. Oregon and Arizona State square off with both teams with New Orleans in sight. But before Duck fans start drooling over the prospects of eating Beniets before the BCS Title Game, they got another major test from a never say die Sun Devil team. Arizona State is 8-0, ranked number four in the BCS and sit alone at the top of the conference standings. So where's the Sun Devil love? The last time Oregon was in the top-10 and hosted ASU, Andrew Walter torched the Ducks for 536 yards in the air in a 45-42 Sun Devil Victory. Read more

It was turnovers that cost us the game with Cal. Stop by Sunday and tell us how badly overrated we are..

P.S. Art? Have you ever been to Autzen? Living around all the fossils that inhabit Arizona has affected you.

Isn't time that the PAC 10 expanded so they can have a conference championship?? This would increase PAC 10 publicity and create new revenues!!

The most obvious choices would be Utah and BYU. Salt Lake City is in the top-30 TV market areas and the largest in the West that is not already tapped by the PAC 10. Utah and BYU bring a good rivalry and some good history. Utah was a BCS-buster in 2004 and always has a great b-ball team. BYU has a national championship and has some good teams within the past 10 years or so.

They would improve the conference, but would truly threaten the pecking order. Every 10 years or so BYU or Utah might fight for the conference title, but usually would fall somewhere between the 4th to 8th spots.

The new PAC 12 would look like this:

PAC 10 North
Oregon
Oregon St.
Washington
Washington St.
Utah
BYU

PAC 10 South
USC
UCLA
Arizona
Arizona St.
California
Stanford

Each team would play 5 intra-division games and 3 or 4 games against the other division (on a rotating basis).

The PAC 12 championship game could rotate among LA, San Fran, and may be Phoenix or Vegas.

Thoughts?

No, no, no, the Pac-10 doesn't have any use for expansion. Now that the conference has a full round-robin schedule, the championship is clearly decided.

As for "art" in New Britain, who needs trash talk? You neglected to mention that ASU has also lost the last two in Tempe to Oregon, including last season. Of course, that's all meaningless, isn't it?

Oregon has clearly played a more difficult schedule than ASU, and the Devils should have lost in Pullman. If the Ducks get an early lead on the slow-starting Sun Devils, it could get ugly in a hurry.

At least you have a ready-made excuse: you can blame it all on Rudy's sore thumb.

Having just come back from the game, first it was a great game regardless who won, I can tell you that 4 ASU fans were in front of us and they were not happy campers. Besides the overwhelming noise, and being surrounded by Duck fans, thier team ran into a buzzsaw.

The ASU guys had come with a few Duck friends who were Duck boosters. back and forth for the first 10 minutes or so as the teams exchanged points. Then they sat down the rest of the game mumbling and shaking their heads at the play calling by Erickson.

With that said, WTF Belloti? Dixon goes down and then you whimp out doing the same stupid conservative play calling you did for SC.

I agree with B-Dawg. Adding BYU and Utah makes a lot of sense. Looking at geography, athletics, and academics, there isn't a more attractive pair. Plus a conference championship would be really fun.

I also think that we really need to get a better TV contract with more national exposure like the SEC has with CBS.

Art .... ooooh Arrrrt .....

Key stats ....

ASU a 2-13 on third down conversions ....

Rudy got sacked 9 times ....

ASU 5 times in the Red Zone, no touchdowns ....

ASU rushed ... well, perhaps "rushed" is a bit
too strong a word for it ... for 2.7 yards per
carry ....

'Nuff said?

Due to TV markets, having a North South split in a 12 team conference would not be good. Guess which teams would get the TV exposure? Those in LA and Phoenix markets.

So, splitting East West would be the best for TV.
West:
Washington
Oregon State
Stanford
USC
ASU
BYU

East
WSU
Oregon
Cal
UCLA
Arizona
Utah

NW teams also get a shot at playing in better weather in November.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Aries

Don't get embroiled in a bad-tempered skirmish today, for it might turn into more than that if you aren't careful. Everyone seems to be ratty and argumentative, but once you let the first spat take place it's effectively declaring open season. Even though things seem out-of-joint, keep your lines of communication open.
