Football: Ohio State players block out the noise | BuckeyeXtra

Senior Joe Bauserman, seen leaving yesterday's news conference, is in the mix for the starting quarterback job, which coach Luke Fickell said is "completely wide open." CHRIS RUSSELL DISPATCH Senior center Michael Brewster says he and his teammates haven't discussed the program's problems. Full Story

The Buckeyes are headed in the right direction under the leadership of Luke Fickell. They are doing what they should be doing, getting ready for the 2011 season. Nothing they can do about the NCAA investigation or its future implications. Just play football, be conscientious students, and good community representatives of the university.

Can't wait for the season to start. Go Bucks!!

If there is still anyone left out there who views anything objectively in this ongoing NCAA saga, Ohio State has only lost one player -- Terrelle Pryor (in addition to last season's graduating seniors). That's it -- one player. To be sure, Pryor wasn't just any garden variety participant and there are 5 other players who will be suspended for the first 5 games (but they will all be back for the most brutal part of the schedule)-- but it's still just ONE player.

The head coach is gone but all of the others are back - the same ones who know the current personnel very well and have coached them for years.

Regardless of how future scholarship-reductions due to NCAA penalties might impact things, the bottom line is that THIS year's team is going to be pretty damn good. I like Mike Brewster's attitude, and I have no doubt that the circus that has surrounded him and his teammates the last 6 months has gone a long way to unite them in ways the fans & media can't understand.

Yep, right now it's not cool to be brandishing Ohio State gear anywhere outside of the immediate Columbus environs. A trip to Cedar Point 2 weeks ago confirmed it for me. My OSU hat drew a couple of sarcastic jabs from the 14 million Michigan visitors at the park that day.

But they tee it up in Ohio Stadium in about 2 months, and on that day, 87 roster players who did absolutely nothing wrong will have a serious chip on their shoulder.

Hey Tim,
I forgot to welcome you back after your short reprieve(vacation).

As I am sure you are aware, the critics of the Dispatch and the Buckeyes have moved on to greener pastures.Let the fun/games begin/continue whatever.

Keep your head down and your powder dry!!!!!!!!

I am sure you kids will look forward to your support when they make mistakes along the way. The amount of time and work that college athletes put in year round, make them like family. I guess you just do not get it.

It's too bad the NCAA won't allow coaches can't be with the players during this type of turmoil. On the other hand, it's OK for other team's coaching staffs to contact committed recruits and try to steal them with false or misleading allegations and lies.

Well, they all say the "right" things, but what would ya' expect?? "Awwww, we can't stop talking about how lousy we are gonna be for the next decade"????? This is a fluff article, no substance. And let's see how "focused" the players are as the hammer comes down and they stumble to a 6 - 6 record and no bowl game....

Yeah....luckeye larry, you seem to know it all. Living in mommy's trailer down in that rat infested, redneck, trailer trash community of Covington, Ky, I'm sure you have all the answers.

If this is a fluff article, why are you reading it, let alone commenting on it?

Great job boys..When your young, you take things for granted. Just keep doing what you love to do, play football and grow as students. So soon this will all be a memory and it is so much about what you do now. Don't listen to the talking heads, Buckeye Nation is large and in charge and behind you 100%

Hey there luckeye larry,

What team do you like? Who do ya' love?

Not everyone likes the Buckeyes, many others just like you. They like to rip them every chance they get. Online free expression. What a great thing.

But who do you live and die with around the college football scene?

I like to know, so that I can do some research on the prospects for your team this season. Looking forward to seeing your response. Thanks for stopping by.

Very interesting analogy, gjzuidy. You really think Ohio State will wallow in the same misery U of M has grown accustomed to over the last few years?

Hey John, I did edit your post down to keep things short.
The deal is this... The haters are here to stay and the Michigan people still have to come to Ohio for entertainment as they have no place else to go. I believe Cedar Point is a class act and even the haters can't deny that.
Oh, those Kentuckians mouthing off.... Lets all remember they are SEC. Football wise, not very good ones but still SEC.

The way Michigan is talking and guaranteeing that they will beat OSU, that should be motivation enough. We need to beat Michigan more than ever! They think they are going to destroy the Buckeyes on Nov. 26th. Sources have said that Brady Hoke has come out and guaranteed a victory. Beat the Blue!!!

I'm excited to finally hear about football and how the team is looking to make some noise this year. As much as it pains Michigan fans to say it, there is still a TON of talent on this team. The defense is your typical OSU defense. They are going to do what they do best and that is shutting down opponents. As summer practices move along we will see more of how the QB and RB positions take shape, and hopefully they use the RB and TE positions to work in short passes for whatever inexperienced QB we have starting. Then as the year moves along we can see how he develops. Call me a blind Buckeye fanatic, but there is nothing that tells me these kids can't compete for the Big Ten title this year and be close to or achieve an undefeated season. All of this media bashing really doesn't sit well with them and they are going to be looking to knock some heads in when the season starts.
