How soon we forget. Kirk Ferentz is the best coach in the Big Ten and he will get us back to where we were. No, it won't be this year , unfortunately, due to immature players leaving for one reason or another, many have injuries, and some haven't realized that stealing is against the law. But I have a ton of confidence in him and he will get the job done.

I go to school at U of Iowa. All I can say about Ferentz is that he doesn't tolerate stupid and unlawful behaviors in his players, unlike the previous basketball coach (Pierre Pierce, anyone?). He is unafraid to cut players who don't measure up off the field.

He is, however, not terribly effective as a coach. Drew Tate (his prize quarterback) went from NFL prospect his junior year to undraftable QB who would never run, even if his other option was getting sacked--he is at last count on the injured list in Canada ball. Ferentz can't get decent players to come to Iowa because it's a small town atmosphere (or so they think) and also because Iowa has never produced NFL-quality offensive players. He also can't coach what he has--latest efforts to contain the team is a 10pm every night curfew because the kiddies are carousing instead of exercising (bodies or minds).

Long live Fry!

Griffin,

You mentioned that Iowa has produced no NFL quality players. Wrong, do the names Dallas Clark, Nate Kaeding, Mike Goff, Eric Steinbach, Ladell Betts, Robert Gallery, Ross Verba, Casey Wiegmann and Chuck Long. Not all Pro-Bowlers (a few), but respectable players, just from the offense. Defensively, you have Johathan Babineaux, Sean Considine, Aaron Kampman, Colin Cole, Bob Sanders, Chad Greenway, Jared DeVries, Abdul Hodge and Matt Roth. A couple of more Pro-Bowlers there.

One other point, 12 of the 22 starters from the April roster are not playing now. Hard to be a huge success with attrition like that.

Kirk is having a down period. Most coaches go through that. I am sure that the Hawks will be back.
