You can't trade compensatory picks. If the Vikings were to trade a seventh round pick, it can't be that one.

"Vikings give up: No. 12 overall pick and a seventh-round compensatory pick (No. 236 overall)"

Compensatory picks can't be traded. What's up?

I would have enjoyed your article more if you included more trade down scenarios. I believe there's at least 3 teams looking for impact DEs and #12 is coveted - Pats, Eagles (incl. OL) and Bucs. Vikes swapping w/ Pats #17 would recoup our 3rd, and Eagles/Bucs can net a 2nd.

This makes sense!

It kind of ruins the credibility of the author when he starts trading compensatory picks.......which can't be traded. If the author of the story doesn't know that you can't trade compensatory picks, what else doesn't he know?

The draft value chart sucks. Value varies every year, especially at the top of the first round. Further, the chart overemphasizes the value of early picks. The chart is best for Bill Belichick, who uses it to fleece teams when trading down.

Trade down to get Blaine Gabbert or pick Jake Locker at number 12.

Or try and work a trade with draft picks with the Eagles for Kolb. Now I have heard the Eagles slapped a franchise tag on Kolb.

We need to draft a young QB, but we still need a decent QB for the next two years while grooming the new guy. Donavon McScabb is not it, washed up, might as well bring back Favre.

I think the Vikings don't have very many options. Again, we need a QB, a WR, a Safety, a Corner, probably another OL, and maybe a LB. I'm not sure Locker or Gabbert are the guys to take at 12. Locker played behind a poor offensive line at Washington, and our line last year wasn't that good either. Gabbert played for an irrelevant Missouri Tigers team that raises plenty of questions for me. He was supposed to be better than the QB before him, but that guy MADE Missouri relevant. Gabbert didn't do that. The best QB from this group just might be Colin Kaepernick He has something to prove, and he did improve at Nevada.

No way, under any circumstances, would they trade 3 picks for a defensive end. Wow. Edwards and Robison are proof that quality DEs can be had later in the draft.

This will be an interesting draft to say the least. Whoever it is...I hope Frazier and Spielman get their QB (or tank it and get Luck next year).

Thank You...I was beginning to think I was one of one when it came to knowing that...they could trade the regular pick in that round though if they wanted to.

One thing I don't get with all this coverage..."insiders " keep saying this draft is "full of lineman on both sides". If that's the case wouldn't that mean that the Vikings could wait to shore up the DL? They make it sound like that's the sole reason to pick a DE in the 1st round. I say grab the best OT with 12....McKinney is too lazy and Loadholt is his understudy (it seems)
