i can only hope that the two of you are joking on some level, otherwise my already bleak perspective on the state of idiocy our race maintains will be far greater. GGF, im with you on this one, even if i disagree with you on the mallett/locker debate. i find no reason for people to be attacking others in any way behind the screen of a computer and would much rather have comments like these trolled out than one that has a cuss word or something.
waco kid/old guy, i have nothing to say to you because you are from WI and i already know what you bring to the table.
Exactly. What the heck is happening to common decency in a forum anymore. It's about FB folks, not idiotic comments or threatening from behind a keyboard.

Actually, it bothers me very little. It's more of an inconvience than anything and I just skip over those posts. My wish is the moderators would delete posts that offer nothing to the forum. I come here to talk FB, specifically the Vikings, since it's a column from a Minneapolis paper. I don't have time or the immaturity to go to another teams site and post meaningless statements to incite others, but if that's your thing, I guess I'll just keep ignoring the best I can. Have a good one.

Interesting. You have four QB's gone by the 12th pick, which if that scenario happens I believe that the Vikings would be best to drop down to acquire more picks (if they have a trade partner) or take the best player available. I think Mallett and Locker will both be there at 12, and possibly in the 20's. if we stay at #12 I'm not sure either is worth taking considering the risk, but if I had to choose, I would take Mallett over Locker. It's going to be interesting in four years when they access the draft which QB panned out and which ones did not.
I think Mallett is the 3rd QB taken just because some middle of the pack teams will think his arm is the answer to their problems - and it might be true. Miami has a pretty good set of receivers but Henne can't seem to develop much of a vertical threat with them. Mallett gives them accuracy and a deep ball. They also have no 2nd round pick which means they might not wait around for a bargain. Jacksonville needs a change at QB and Mallett makes sense for them too - especially the deep threat aspect. If they can open the field up for their running game, they will be a much improved team. The top receivers will be off the board by the time they pick. Maybe they pull the trigger on a QB upgrade.

I think Miami gives Henne another chance and they draft another position. Mallett would then slide to the top of the second, where Locker, Ponder, and some of the other QB's considered "second tier" to Newton and Gabbert are taken. The Vikings would be wise to take the best player available at #12 (Prince Akamura (sp?), Julio Jones, etc) and roll the dice on a QB sliding into the 2nd. Reaching at #12 would be a mistake, considering they have multiple needs. They need to draft a guaranteed starter in the first round, and although I like Mallett a lot, he is a bit risky if those rumors about his character are true. Some mocks have DE as our pick, but IMO we have greater needs at other positions, and DE has always been a bust for us, especially in round 1.

What about Washington? Do you think Shanahan will try to unload McNabb? Or maybe the Bengals try to trade Palmer if Gabbert or Newton are still there. There are a lot of scenarios that can affect what the Vikings do. As long as we get the best talent available I'll be happy.

Shanny will absolutely unload McNabb. Once he loses trust in somebody he's toast

Absolutely, Shanahan is done with McNabb, all that needs to be determined is what round draft pick that Washongton will get in return, I think they may get a fourth or fifth round pick, although a lot of Skin fans think McNabb's at least worth a third. Palmer's a tough call, their GM is known to be stubborn, and he might call Palmer's bluff and keep him under contract, thus forcing him to retire.

I'm leaning that way too. Supposedly, Shanahan has had a woody for Jake Locker since last year. I also can't see the Dolphins, Jags, or Titans not being interested in Newton in the first round or Mallett in the second. The Vikings might have trouble drafting a QB no matter how badly they wanted one.

I pretty much agree. I'm not sure I would want McNabb at any price. Palmer's price would be awfully steep, if there ever was one. I just hope the Vikings realize they are not "a QB away from a championship" and draft accordingly.

Also heard the talk that the Vikings are not that far away. Thay must hot have seen the way our OL played last year, no running game and no pass protection from either side. It starts up front, and unless they light a fire under McKinne and Loadholt this off season and get them to workout and loss some weight so they are not 6'8" statues, it will be a long year.

I'd be happy if the Vikes set to rebuilding both lines and the secondary. I also think they want to get a veteran QB for a lot of reasons, although nothing would surprise me with a new head coach.

Yes, I agree, although our DL is servicable and could get thru another year without any additions if they stay relatively injury free and the secondary could be alright if Cook steps up. A decent pass rush would help. By far our largest need is OL. Upgrade that and Peterson returns to at least over 1500 yards. For QB, since they have almost no experience, they will add someone once free agency resumes.

Either Smith, Castanzo, or Pouncey would be nice.
