Boilers handle Irish's surge

There are 52 comments on the The Indianapolis Star story from Sep 30, 2007, titled Boilers handle Irish's surge. In it, The Indianapolis Star reports that:

In the first half, when Purdue jumped to a 23-point lead, it appeared the unbeaten Boilermakers were as good as advertised and that winless Notre Dame was, indeed, not very good.

I am surprised that Weis still has a job at ND!

I guess the new measurement of success at ND is how you play one half and not an entire game.

Charlie has the coaching ability of a 9th grader playing NCAA football on playstation.

Anybody who gets in 6 fourth down situations in the 2nd half and doesn't kick the ball a single time is destined for failure.

The Purdue offense only put up 10 points in the second half, but instead of kicking the ball and getting some better field position, he put the game on the line time after time.

The fact that he was lucky enough on most of them meant that the blowout wasn't as ugly as it should have been.

The Problem for domers is that this move is going to cost him in the future.

Hell, the guy even said he would have gone for two both times if he scored two more touchdowns.... because he wasn't going to play for overtime.

He came into ND with a press conference saying "our team will have a schematic advantage over every opponent"...(nice of him to take credit for every win in advance). This kind of scheme isn't an advantage, its just plain dumb football.

someday nd will return to respectability in football, but charlie is not the one who will lead them there.

Where are Irish Chris and Knute? The funniest part of yesterdays game is when the announcers were trying to praise Clausen when they still had a big 0 on the scoreboard. He sucks and so does the team. How many time can you not get 4th and inches and give up 3rd and 12s. Kudos to the boilers even though they played to conservative in the second half. ND on the way to 0-8, man o man, Weis really is a genius.

A Purdue fan is like a Cubs fan: there is no such thing as a sure thing. I know, I am a Purdue fan AND a Cubs fan.

Purdue almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. I did not want to be the first team to lose to N.D. this year, but I really did not want to do it by blowing a 23 point lead.

Our defense is shaky and only because we have played offenses shakier than our defense have we prevailed. I am afraid the Big Ten schedule will expose us, doom us to a 8-4 record and another trip to a second or third tier bowl. That would really put a lot of pressure on Joe Tiller.

Notre Dame and A.D. Kevin White are getting what they paid for.

Once again the "D" looks less than stellar. In the second half, knowing ful well they need to pass to get in the game, and every other team ND has played, continued to blitz them. What does Spack do, sets back and watches ND pass all over us. Very seldom blitzing or putting any pressure with our 4 down line man. Should have gotten rid of him 3 years ago!Lousy D cordinator

WHY CHANGE THE TITLE OF THE ARTICLE!!!???

This entire article was a copy/past from the Lafayette paper - except for the title - why would you change it to make it less flaterring about Purdue?

Purdue better get it's D going and score TDs in the red zone if they are beat OSU. Also uninspired play calling in second half. They need to throw to the hiddle of the field on medium and deep routes. We have plenty of scoring weapons and they deserve better and more aggressive play calling. PS, for Domers: Unloke Charlie, Zook and Ty seem to be doing OK in their 3rd years.

That question can best be answered by Jim Leftcoat: "because I hate Purdue and will do anything within my powers to demean them. I am such an honorable and admirable person and anyone (iu fans) else would do the same)."

I think Spack forgot what a blitz was - I don't know if he is scared but he is about to get exposed, wait, has been exposed as one of the worst D coordinators in the big ten.

ND will get more attention at 0-8 than P.U. will get for being 8-0. Why? Because no one outside of this sorry state knows they exist. Maybe ND should stoop to Purdue's and Ohio State's athletic "graduation" requirements and then we will see whose laughing. They still pack stadiums wherever they play home or away. They didn't just fade away after the Faust era and they will survive this as well. Enjoy it while you can P.U.

I think if they keep improving their ability to finish games strong, they are going to be a real pain in the but for my beloved Hoosiers come bucket time....this was the first time I had seen them play and I heard that the knock was their inability to finish games strong. This may have been a watershed game for them because they had every chance to crumble at 26-19 but they settled down and delivered the knockout punch. Nice win.

Even though ND showed a little more fight in the 2nd half they still look like a poorly coached and prepared team. Purdue really lost focus and kept them in the game. Regardless of the talent level you still have to coach the players you still have (note to Charlie genius Weis). By the way, Washington sure looks like they are headed in the right direction with Ty as it sure does look like he can recruit despite the claims of the ND faithful.

That's because it's atypical, genius. The average SAT of a ND player was <900 and with all the defections, the grad rate will be declining.
