Ainge who?

Boy, that 2nd team defense must be awful. |

Exactly what I was thinking " GET REAL." Everyone is going to be so pumped, so jacked, so very ready for the season but man as soon as he loses his first game, man oh man I can't wait for those fair weather fans to jump on their " fat phil sucks, I hate crompton " bandwagons.
Sad thing is, this will happen the entire season. UT will win those non SEC craptastic games and the fans will lose their minds with how great the average Vols are. Soon as they lose a real game, then two, then three, and so on, they will all be preaching the same old tune of " fire fat phil " and " get rid of crompton." Go LSU Tigers! |

Hey Douchebag..since you are such a football whiz why don't you see about getting a job with ESPN as an analyst? Or since you can see into the future why not get a crystal ball and set up a fortune telling booth at the county fair? You are an IDIOT. So please get the hell out of Tennessee and move to Lousyanna!! GO BIG ORANGE!!!!!!!!!! |

Common response from someone who knows absolutely nothing about Football. You know, I admire the true UT fans as they are real dedicated and real supportive of their team, however, fans like you that have nothing else as a legit come back with stats and can only spew out profanities and such the like are the best ones of all. Let me refresh you on Crompton Phil.
When he played in 2006, he played only for a few moments in a few games such as the Southern Miss game where all he did was play two downs, get an incomplete pass and a sack for a loss of 8 yards before he was pulled. How about the Florida game where he was 2/5 with 12 yards, 12. A completion average of around 40% and in those attempts he threw an interception. He played one play in the Arkansas State game and was 1/1 for 1 yard. Impressive... On to the Alabama game where he was 1/2 for 16 yards, gettting a bit better on his completion average. He played at the Louisiana-Lafayette game and was 3/4 for 68 yards, getting a bit better. He actually did get a TD on that run as well. He only played in one other game outside of that which was the LSU game and was 0/1. Now mind you, this was back when Philip Fulmer would pull out Crompton and Ainge all the time when one made a mistake so I am sure he would have done a little better had he had more playing time. However let’s face it. Ainge also looked great in practice and you know what happened their don’t you? |

Again, getting all jazzed up about how well Crompton did in a practice game is incredibly stupid. Now if he can perform like that against UGA or Florida, then you have every right to get all jazzed up because those are impressive teams. Sure, Crompton will play that way against some of the craptastic teams they have on their schedule like UAB, Vanderbilt, Memphis, Mississippi state and Wyoming.
However against Auburn, UGA, Florida and quite possibly Alabama, South Carolina and UCLA, this is where you will see Crompton start to feel some pressure. Statistically speaking, Crompton will only perform to perhaps a attempt to completion rate of around 48.1% which is decent, but not what you need to be able to compete with the big dogs in the SEC. Now please, if you have something to actually add to this debate, then by all means. However if all you can do is bash people for pointing out the obvious, then the only thing you are doing is making yourself and other REAL UT fans look incredibly foolish and I am sure they do not like that to much. |

i hope he/they can pull it off this year if not next. i'd like to see a small town guy do well. if not.... i still bleed ORANGE GO VOLS!!
Statistically speaking, its impossible to judge how he will play considering his lack of play time and the moments he was put in were a little wacky. Maybe wait a couple of games before judging him? By the way, YOU are the one who makes UT fans look foolish. Judging a QB before he can prove himself is just silly. |

If you wanna throw around statistics, straight off ESPN.com
2006 31 of 66 for 401 yards 4 TD 2 INT QB Rating 111.9 2007 7 of 12 for 97 yards 1 TD 2 INT QB rating 120.4 |

Since UT is now making us pay for football tickets even though we still pay the activity fee, all I can say is who cares.
No Vols were arrested before, during or after the game...So far. |

Folks, the defense was really handicapped in this scrimmage in terms of the packages allowed. I am glad the offense performed well, but spring games don't matter much come fall.
Thank you Actual, that is exactly my point. You cannot get all jazzed up about a practice game. And no Dusty, I do not make the UT fans look foolish as I am not a UT fan. Revert back to my first post, I am an LSU fan.

All I can say is that I am tired of fairweather fans, you either love em or hate em, whether they are bad or good.

Looks like the "National Title" talk will start soon for the bleed-orange fans.
Let's not forget who a lot of Crompton's numbers were against... not the opponents first-strings; and the scrimmage wasn't against a quality SEC defense. I think if they can keep their losses to 4 or less it'll be a successful season for them. |
Mark my words....Crompton will surprise some people this year...he wont be Peyton Manning (but who is?!?) or even Heath Shuler but he will be a solid SEC QB...all he has to do is manage the offense efficiently and occasionally make a big play....I think our offense will hinge more on the run game....Creer and Foster and the O-line have got to play well for us to win...prediction: 4 losses....bowl win....
He better beat Alabama. |

I agree with Bandit Vol 69 on this one. In fact, I have two friendly bets with a friend of mine that UT will lose for games and the second bet being UT will lose to South Carolina.
Now granted the chances of the Vols losing to South Carolina aren't that good, but I just have a feeling. They will go back to the UT Bowl... err I mean the Outback Bowl ( can't spent Outback without UT can ya?) and win again. Probably against Penn State this year which will make them feel good as they lost to Penn State two years ago in the Outback Bowl. I am sure Crompton will surprise a lot of people including myself however as soon as the pressure is on he is going to slowly buckle. This isn't all his fault though, this has a lot to do with Philip Fulmer. Philip Fulmer is a great coach no denying that at all. The problem is, no matter what OC is their, Philip drills the OC's to go for those three to seven yard slants which really never work out against the real SEC teams. That was a big problem with Ainge last year. Ainge like Crompton has an arm, however they did not allow him to use it. I think that is going to be the key factor with Crompton. |
