sounds like Leach is taking a page from Carl Rove's playbook; deny everything and sling the mud.

It appears that Tech Administration and the Board of Regents (Jim Sowell was President of the Board of Regents last February) were scheming to fire Leach even while they were negotiating (apparently in bad faith) his contract last February. It is difficult to believe that it was by "coincidence" that they fired Leach one day before he became eligible for an 800k bonus and other perks.

If they had not used the (exaggerated and distorted) case of Adam James as an excuse, they would have trumped up something else.

Leach took over the Tech program ten years ago while it was under probation with limited scholarships. It took 5 years for the scholarship sanctions to wash out. Leach used what scholarships he had to mostly build the offense to make the team exciting. Leach made Tech the exemplar of education for college players; Tech leads the NCAA in graduating players. Sometimes he uses strange methods, such as setting up a study desk on the practice field for Edward Britton when he began to lag in his studies. But his methods are unarguably effective.

Gerald Myers, "el Prepotente" AD at Tech probably wants to bring back good old boy Sonny Dykes, son of his other good-old-boy protege, Spike Dykes, as head coach at Tech. Sonny, the "offensive" coordinator" at Arizona, "coordinated" the offense to a 0 to 31 loss against Nebraska in the recent Holiday Bowl game.

As long as Gerald Myers is Athletic Director at Tech, there will never be another coach of Leach's caliber. Leach had his faults, but don't look for any improvement in the program after he is gone.

See the scheming behind the contract negotiating last February by Tech Admin against Leach in these emails that the Dallas Morning News obtained through the Freedom of Information Act:

Bring Leach to UTEP an El Paso and prove to the country just how bad a mistake Texas Tech made. Sorry coach Price, you had your time in the sun got UTEP a few bowl representations but the last few mediocre years reflect some "It's okay" coaching. We need a coach like Leach to light a fire under a few of those UTEP young men!

OK!! Leach denies putting the James kid in the equipment shed and electrical closet. Then says he never locked the door. The trainers removed the coolers when he was found sitting on one. This has to be some kind of punishment. If jamse Daddy was being so much of a bother and he didn't like the Kid, release him let him keep his scolarship and he would move to another school. If as coach Leach says it is indeed all about money then He most likely bargined himself out of a job. When you start talking big numbers like that you better be named Joe Paterno or Mack Brown.

One thing is true, there was bad blood brewing at Tech since last year and seems they were looking for an opportunity to get rid of him.
Leach is an arrogant ahole but he can sure coach and took a mediocre program and put it on the spotlight, when was the last time they were ranked #2 in the nation?

The fact that they didn't perform that well this year also helped them make the decision to get rid of him. The expectations were so high after last year.

Tech does not have the money or intellect to hire another coach to replace Leach and make tech a winning program, good coaches now demand more money and Tech just does not have that kind of money.

Leach heard CAAACHINGG!and a way out of his contract and took it. The school adminstration is just too stupid to realize that they not only paid Leach for the remainder of his contract, but he can no coach a real football team. TT was/is good, but those players are too small and slow to compete with bigger schools.

Are you stupid?

These were teh same players that beat All mighty Texas last year. They were the same team that beat big bad OU....wait, they DESTROYED OU this year. They were the same team that produced Michael Crabtree....yeah, he's too small and slow to play.

we have all seen it, but it usually happens in high school. that player whose daddy uses money and influence to increase his son's prominence on the team. after reading the stories, watching the videos of where adam james was put after his injury i have to say adam is lying, coaches, doctors and trainers back up leach and this sure looks like a kid who is using his daddy to protect his lack of work ethic. leach took the stabbing because craig james thinks he can have whatever he wants for his kid, sorry but that usually does not work in college, mommy and daddy are suppose to sit in the stands and cheer, that is all. leach has been railroaded by by power and money and craig james used his mic at espn to fry leach, espn broadcasters also tried to fry leach for their work buddy james, but now are backing off after they see spolied adam was lying. you cannot play football at this level unless you are a man that can stand on his own two feet, adam james cannot., espn should fire craig james, adam james should be kicked off the team. he probably thinks he can be the superstar at smu but he is not good enough to be the superstar anywhere. leach will be a wealthy man when this goes to court and is over, i wonder how much he will get, espn has deep pockets and so does texas tech.

Bob Knight doesnt live in Lubbock. In fact, he never did. He lives in Wolfforth, TX. Its a town west of Lubbock that is 15 minutes from the university. I've recently seen him at the Rawls Course and Five Guys Burgers and Fries in Lubbock.

I agree with coach Leach! James was a spoiled brat wanting his way and felt he was, "entitled", because of his dad, Craig James!
James is one of the reasons I abhorre, and despise ESPN!!
They believe themselves to be so high and mighty!
All these white ex-jocks commentators suck!
Remember when James played at SMU?
They came to the Sun Bowl, and got whipped?
They felt the Sun Bowl was beneath them and look at what happened to SMU!
This white turd and his family feel they are entitled!
Well, guess what? NO THEY"RE NOT!!!
I'm glad Leach finally stood up to these elitist pigs!
Now Bob Stull, bring Leach in here!!!
